Thread regarding Citigroup Inc. / Citibank / Citi layoffs

Anybody puzzled by hiring spree at some regional offices

So I've been hearing about layoffs for a while now. And ever since I've started it's been a huge hiring spree position after position for tons of roles, so I don't get how this makes sense given that they also plan to lay off.

Also, has anyone else's onboarding process felt like you were just picked at random? They seemed to forget about me for months during the process and then all of the sudden they wanted me and offered a good amount. It almost felt unreal and too good to be true, which also adds to the stress of maybe it turning out to be true that it was to good to be true. I'm literally scared to be let go in April because a lot of what we do they seem to be getting rid of it anyways.

Every conversation I've had with my manager seems like they're just bs ing me into thinking everything is fine. I left a really good job because I had imagined something completely different given the brand.

But then I also see people being there 10, 20 years, so I don't get it.

I've also seen a lot of promotions in very short time of some new hires in which I know any other firm these folks wouldn't be promoted.

I don't get it at all.

Thank you, I thought I was going insane for thinking like this about the onboarding and offer.

I never understand this with layoffs and I have seen it everywhere. They layoff many people and then turn around and hire a bunch of people. I don't get it, either.
Also, I can relate to you about the on boarding process, too. I thought I was forgotten about and then I get an email that I am hired and it was more than I asked for. I left a competitor and Citi offered way more than what I was making there. It did seem to good to be true. I was super excited. People I had interviewed with here said they were happy. I even asked this forum am I making a mistake joining and many said they were good here. Funny how things have changed.
My Manager also feeds us a bunch of bull with not to worry. Be grateful we're all still here "right now". Truthfully, no one has answers for us.
