Hi everyone, I was affected by the WFR in August. I recently started a new job at a mid-sized software company, and frankly the changes are quite astonishing.
- ~25% salary increase
- 50% more vacation time
- benefits are pretty much the same other than the fitness reimbursement
- leadership actually has quantitative and measurable goals for the next year and beyond
- management doesn't cheap out or count pennies with our customer prospecting/retention. We can take them out for nice meals, sports games and other events, etc. They also have sales retreats every year where they fly the entire sales team to nice resorts on the ocean for account planning and to discuss changes that are happening in the year ahead.
- AI isn't just a buzzword, they actually use it internally and they also just implemented its use in the software (management also actually understands its uses and implications, not just "Are you asking your customers about AI?")
- completely remote workforce. I think they have some office space in WeWork's in 4 or 5 cities in North America, but no requirement to ever use them
Anyways, I was absolutely torn when I was laid off in August. I was crushing my targets and was in line for a promotion, and it just completely blindsided me.
For those who were laid off after me and those who will be laid off in the new year: it is not the end of the world and there are plenty of opportunities out there that are much better than at Dell. For all you know, you may just need that kick to get out of your routine and comfort zone and boost yourself into something much better than before.
Happy holidays all, and I wish you the best in your careers moving forward!
