Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

This is the truth

VPs, SR DIR and Dir in our company are incompetent. They don’t know how to deal with their grade 40s. Most talented people are confused and are not appreciated for their work- they eventually leave. If they try to make any change here, they are being pushed back. OUR BUSINESS IS CHANGE? They don’t accept any new ideas. Nike has a lot of potential, can attract great talent only if they have good leaders.

Also, what’s up with all those ETWs from wipro, Infosys? They don’t know the basics of what they do.

I hope at least one leader reads this and think about their team

AMV and her organization is the most inflated - all they do is create a buck of artifacts

The talent we have needs to be unleashed. Management needs to be about taking down barriers and excessive admin/overhead. Instead it’s about arguing over who owns something or who is going to fund it - including a massive # of brokens, bad logic, & bad design. Get out of the way - unleash the folks that know what to do and hold teams accountable that are roadblocks to getting anything done, anything fixed, etc. A massive amount of resources is consumed ‘managing’ the tech debt. Just stop. What’s the point of massive support teams that never fix anything? Put the responsibility and the costs on the teams with the issues. Have the courage to call out the BS and hold teams accountable. Be a Manager. Be a Director. Be someone worthy of the title.

I dont think they are incompetent but instead scared to do anything. Nike has become a yes man place. If you challenge or don’t go with the flow you are out. Company rewards yes men and punishes anyone with a different idea or view. It comes from top down. You can’t be innovative without an open debate culture where risk taking is punished.

This has nothing to do with grade and is the same resistance if you come in from the outside at 45, 50 and so on.

‘That’s not the way Nike has always done it’ should be their slogan.

I see the same issue where I work on campus. Why waste money on bringing new talent with great ideas when they are told to sit in silence in a corner.
