The commute to and from work is horrendous.

There were never any promises about commute. The traffic here reminds me of east coast. Short distance but lots of bottlenecks like bridges and tunnels. But compared to Seattle, Boston, nyc this is easy and no tolls!

Oh shut up , @ThePeople as a Texan. If I was driving 1hour I was going over 40 miles . This commute is extremely inefficient going 12 miles and it taking 1:30 is ridiculous. The city was not built for this and it was not what we were promised.

Looking at the posts. You are all an entailed bunch of spoiled brats. going to the office 3- 4 days a week is great. For the amount of pay and benefits you get many should be happy. Your 40-minute commute each way is laughable. People in Seattle, Houston, Dallas, Austin, etc. commute 2 hrs. per day. You people should be grateful you have six-figure jobs with generous health insurance rather than whining. You have no idea how tough it is out of the berm. The arrogance and lack of gratitude for what you have are laughable.

September seems most likely for 5-1 due to summer Fridays anyways.

Btw. For those who are upset about 3/2 becoming 4/1. Buckle up. Word on the street is they were going back to 5 days in office in September but are now moving it up to somewhere between March-May.

Nike has shuttle busses for interns in the summer. They are too cheap to provide one. This isn’t Google. You might be able to talk to a bus company about setting one up with enough people or maybe Nike subsidizing it. They will probably tell you to take the max. At one point they have away free max passes.

@3wxf I like that idea and have always wondered myself why there aren’t shuttle busses from places like the pearl where a lot of Nike people live. Some of us aren’t ready for the suburbs and prefer having a life outside of just working and going home. Hard to balance it all. I agree. Commuting feels like my life is wasting away behind the wheel!

I like living in Portland. I live at the goat blocks and was hired during the pandemic. Lots of cool restaurants and night life after work. I agree, the commute is terrible. How are we supposed to have a life and be expected to commute in terrible traffic? Why doesn’t Nike have shuttles like other companies? With Wi-Fi we could even start our day on the buses. This would solve everyone’s problems. We can go to work in the office and also not have to deal with wasting our live in a car.

Folks need to read the fine print and ANYONE that was hired full time remote, 3/2, 2/3, 1/4, and now 4/1 all did so with the contract stating that could change at Nike's discretion at ANY time.

Post ID: @2ori+1qKpcsVb

It’s employment at will meaning Nike can fire you or change the terms of your employment at any time. You have no contract. So you can either accommodate by doing the things people said like leaving earlier, moving closer or find a new job. The company will not accommodate you. Do you think most employees aspired to live in Beaverton, Hillsboro or Tigard? No we do it as it’s convenient to whq.

Some of us were hired under 3/2 and there was no talk about the company eventually shifting to 4/1 or 5/0 in the interviews or job offer. It was simply presented as Nikes Flexible Hybrid Work Model not Nike’s Temporary Flexible Hybrid Work Model. Of course they can change things whenever they please but we were hired under 3/2 with no mention of it being temporary.

It’s so comical seeing people say how there are so many solutions to this yet none of them have actually named any realistic and effective ways that solve it in this current world today. You guys must be the same ones that are causing this company to go downhill with your illogical thinking and strategies …… except they aren’t even strategies

Um, pretty sure WHQ has been in the same place forever. If you took a job and did not factor in your commute to campus...that's on you.

There are so many solves to this, and honestly if it's that big of an issue for you go to either a smaller town or a different job. So many people will thank you for freeing up the headcount for people who actually want to be here.

Commuting has always been part of determining whether or not to take a job. Anyone who thought that sitting in their living room and "working from home" was going to turn into the norm was extremely naive at best. If you don't like it, there are many levers you can pull to make a change. Your life and career are within your control.

People are downvoting these comments but as someone who was laid off in December I would wholeheartedly give up the commute time for my job back. Happy to trade if you want!

Love the replies to just come in early and leave late.. so easy! Guess I’ll ask my kids to transport themselves. Also that commutes are worse in other places, so your problems are completely irrelevant! At least you don’t have cancer and live in your car. You guys are so helpful.., I sure hope you are ELT

Nah, there’s another option. It starts with ousting the LT dinosaurs that think work is a place and not something we do.

Your only two options are to move closer or get a job closer to home. Anything other that is just whining.

You didn’t actually believe that “Move to zero” was anything other than a marketing phrase did you? Jd, pk, and the elt don’t give a cr%p about the environment or you.

It’s id--tic to think there’s enough housing in Portland alone to sustain everyone. Some of us would rather live in nice neighborhoods with our children without all the Portland unsafe extras

@awg+1qKpcsVb Pretty sure 40% of Nike employees were not hired in the last 3 years. The total number of employees increased by 11% since 2020 GLOBALLY. .

if you were hired under 3/2 covid and banked on it staying that way for your career than I think you should make more educated decisions in the future. Did you think Nike with 100's of million invested in real estate would leave it empty 20% of the week forever? Did you not watch or read one business news publication over the past 2 yrs where almost every large company in the US has been contemplating RTW? Hmmm. Seems a bit Naive

I love the responses to buy a new car or live closer like all of us make the salary to just purchase or move on the fly. Must be nice to have this jet set attitude but in the real world, buying a new car isn't an option for many. Moving to the area isn't an option. Giving up my home interest rate is a bad financial decision and I'm sure my kids would be excited to leave their friends at school. C'mon.
I get tired of these responses from 6-figure employees.
Also consider that 40% of us started during Covid, so no, we didn't do "before Covid". We were hired under a 3/2 hybrid or were hired remote, just for it to be taken away.

Nobody forces you to live far away. Come in early to beat the traffic. Stay later going to gym. Move closer. Compared to real big cities the traffic in Portland is not bad. Take max if you live downtown. Before COVID we all came in 5 days per week if you recall. Be glad it’s only 4 days a week. They could make it five to reduce headcount via attrition. They could even mandate a start time. It their company not yours. We are merely glorified temps that work there.

People in Portland have no idea what a bad commute really looks like. Spend a year commuting in NYC, Boston, D.C., Atlanta, L.A., or even Seattle, and you’ll quickly learn what bad traffic REALLY looks like. I used to commute from Virginia to D.C. five days per week. On a good day it was 90 minutes each way for a 14 mile trip. We also had to be in the office by 8:30. At least in Portland you probably don’t need to wake up at 5:30 to ensure you get to work on time.

Are you able to shift your hours? I usually come in at 6am and leave by 2pm. Sometimes I work out at coach K during my lunch hour. These changes have made a huge difference in my life. I now feel like I have real balance and peace. And I’ve lost 25 pounds. I’m like a new person!
