Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Will I get blocked if I try to move teams?

Might get “below target” for year end. Don’t trust my manager , they have never been supportive or honest with me

Yes you will. If layoffs are coming management will hold onto you for head count fodder. That's what happened to me. I tried to move out of my department in late 21. My manager gave the song and dance that the budget could not be transferred (eventhough Mike Amend said people could transfer anywhere), and that I was a valued employee. Eight months later he's telling me my services are no longer needed. Headcount fodder.

Way easier to find a new job outside of here, get a bump in pay and to find a happier work environment !

Good thing is that you do not have the golden handcuffs holding you back as in having a retirement.

Why not try out another industry / sector. Now that you have some experience you can always come back anytime. That is as long as they haven't outsourced it overseas, but wait that is happening anyway to all these onshore jobs.

If your manager has doesn’t like you, he might let you go. Then again if he really doesn’t like you, he will keep you so that he can build a case to fire you or get you on a layoff list. You’re best bet is to leave the company.

This question has been asked so many times on this board. Why not read the previous responses? Looking for a different answer?

Dude, I was blocked from moving for 2 years but I was on loan working in a different department. They were trading heads but not officially moving anyone. In the end I got let go but after 33 yrs I was ready to go. I suspect the teams were keeping fuzzy headcount numbers to make somebody look good.

Is this a company that builds cars ? You would never know it by reading this blog, what with the constant hand wringing about office jobs being lost or changed. Sounds more like government “make work”.

Your manager can certainly block you from moving if they want to. Your best bet is to quit and get another job elsewhere.
