Thread regarding Citigroup Inc. / Citibank / Citi layoffs

Is it too risky to work here?

I just got a new job offer as a VP in compliance but hearing of all the restructuring and layoffs scares me. On the other hand if you make it out the other side it may not be such a bad thing. What say you.

Lolz. No VP at Citi is making $240k w/$50k signing bonus. But I hear they're now making $275k with $75k signing bonuses with degrees in psychology from University of Phoenix.

ttc+1qLFLz4u please tell me this is a joke.....25+ years experience and nowhere near any of this and I'd be happy to take the offer in your place. No issue working in office 3x per week, most big companies require 3-5x. This post is distasteful.

5 years experience, 50k signing bonus, salary at 240k. Not sure I want to take it because I don't really want to have to come into the office 3x week.

Bad outlook due to myopic leadership. Citi’s great competitive advantage was its global reach. Instead, Citi’s execs decided to dismantle the global components to improve stock price for short term profit. By 2026 Citi will have to be sold for parts.

Been at Citi for over a decade. It’s not a bad place to work. Reorgs and layoffs happen at every large company. I’ve had decent bosses and nice co workers. YMMV depending on the org/group you’re in. Best thing about a large company is that when you’re bored with your job, you can shift internally to a different one. Lateral moves are a nice way to get different experiences without having to totally start over at a new company.

Know that these boards are full of trolls and fear mongers.

And whether your job is ever really at risk is unknown, but you will be motivated by fear that it could be.

Risky? Maybe, you never know what can happen. But if you don't mind 15 meetings a day, 12 hour days, stuffing 10 lbs of cr-p in a 5 lb bag every day, constantly more aggressive timelines and being asked about the progress repeatedly, it's a great place to work. Citi is laying off people with no backfills, which means all the work that was already too much for the people that were here falls to those that are left. Citi is a dumpster fire that does not care at all about employees.
