Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Can Dell really afford to lay off more people ?

For years Dell has been doing layoffs every 6 months (since I've been here and I believe every 6 months before that).

Can they really afford to keep laying people off ? This isn't about staffing but more about about morale and job security.

I don't see a world in which they can lay off again in the new fiscal and people feel comfortable working here.

As long as there are grunts willing to pick up the slack & do more and more work, the answer is yes they will.
Tech needs to unionize. They should have done that years ago.

"You read it wrong

since then share prices went +120% - well worth is by all accounting standards - means Dell got extra $5.5bln on their hands with shares it has bought back at it's lowest ."

Short term moves for short term gains. When Dell starts seeing the negative effects of their constant layoffs the stock price will start to tank.

"Dell spent whopping 770 million $ to cover last 2 layoffs. So much and so frequent layoffs...is it sustainable?"

Dell spent over $800mil on content studio in FY23 so… they don’t seem too worried about the dollars. Just the OPEX.

AI is much cheaper and doesn’t require HR/Salary/Equity/Health Care/Pizza Parties to be productive.

It is called culling the herd. Lop off the people who were put on the layoff list for being disloyal, agitating against the company, poor performers and such. Doing it consistently gives you cover with the stockholders, legislators, regulators and judiciary.

Yes, decades of fake data, smoke/mirrors and failed hype has come to a breaking point. Most "selling" will be replaced with online orders and the outcome will not be any different. The profit will increase.

Have a look at the customer-facing resources for the Specialty Sales Groups. They've been hit quite hard in the last year. That's because the business just isn't there. What is left is now stretched thin. Dell is trying to fill it in with off-shore resources. These people aren't trained. It's ridiculous.

It's easy to find out. Go look at planned sales vs what actually happened. There's your answer.
