Thread regarding Bank of America layoffs

What were bonuses like before the Decline?

I joined the Bank through a development program therefore I never had a real bonus. After COVID hit, I noticed everyone's bonuses started decreasing. The amount I see now is similar to what I'm used to getting. What was considered a normal or standard bonus amount outside of sales roles?

Non sales (not client facing): 25% higher pre Covid
(and 30% more than that pre-'08 crash)

you are the weakest in your team and your boss is eating most of your bonus $$$$

These glory years described by posters must have been long ago. For me the bonus has always been an average of 4k, since I have been in GTO, several areas and different managers, for the past 9 years, m/e, e/m, e/e only.

My best bonus was $75k ( I was making $220k a year base salary before bonus, so was making just under $300k at VP level for many years., as my raises were always good). Years after that it was around $62k for about 3 years then $50k for few years, then I left for another job and better money.

I was able to pay off all my debt during those years of good bonuses , I paid off mortgage, student loan and car. And still had enough money to take one good vacation a year with family. Today I have no debt, my real estate is all paid off and has tripled in value. I am fortunate I had enough common sense to pay everything off and live way below my means during my prime working years. Now I’m just waiting and watching as we all know the collapse is coming.

Those were the good old days.

As a B5 making a little more than half what I make now, my bonuses were almost twice as much. So - while I have EARNED my salary increases through changing jobs, taking on a lot more responsibility, and becoming a B4, the bonuses have drastically decreased - even though supposedly I was moving to “a new bonus pool” when I moved to B4 role.

20+ year employee here. While I was never paid five figure bonuses, some high performers purchased a new car with their bonus back in the day.

I was a B4 making I think $175k salary and I got a bonus of $50k one time. For a good 5-6 years it was $40k+ I left once I saw the money writing on the wall
