Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Eliminating flexibility is sure as he-l going to fix all the problems

Introducing strict work hours, coming up with different ways to control every minute the employee spends working, releasing the management into offices to look constantly over our shoulders, have always been, in my experience, a sure sign that a company is going downhill and fast. Not having any actually smart ideas, eh?

I'm @rdi+1qPlMXcy, long time black badge who lives in a part of the Portland Metro Area I love and have good freeway access to WHQ. I'll drink the Kool-Aid while I'm getting a paycheck from The Swoosh. When it goes away I'll move on to something else. That's how life works.

Throwing some more out there. Half of the jobs you see posted are ghost postings, they are either left up or not real jobs. Oh and unemployment numbers don’t count those who have exhausted their benefits.

@xfm+1qPlMXcy Please share. I was laid off in November , applied to 300 jobs using the resume Nike outplacement services helped me create and I still haven’t found anything.

I went to a top school, have some great accomplishments and relationships but anyone in the job market right now know it su-ks.

Jobs are being added in service (retail/restaurant ) and healthcare, not white collar.

FYI there are a ton of hybrid and remote opportunities still out there. It’s a tough climate if you’re in tech, but there are places out there doing a lot better job of weathering the storm than Nike and still actively hiring.

Most companies are doing this. If you want autonomy, start your own business

I have a feeling that 5 days in the office will probably start the beginning of the next fiscal year. I wouldn’t be surprised if they eliminated Summer Fridays as it seems PRODUCTIVITY is what Nike is after.

Lack of flexibility number 1 reason why I'm exploring of leaving Nike. I was hired under the hybrid model. Now with rumors of 5 day office work week. The juice is not worth the squeeze anymore. Good luck with attracting talent outside of the PDX area.

@rsp this is one of the d-mbest fu---n lines we see on here over and over. A halfway competent manager who actually understands their responsible area not only knows breathing down people's necks WRECKS productivity AND results but is also plenty aware of when the work isn't getting done. If you need to monitor someone physically to gather whether you think they're doing their job (spoiler alert, ain't gonna tell you nothin) or force them into some schedule outside of any meaningful interpersonal or time-based dependencies, you're not a competent manager or you don't understand the work, or both. Full stop. Get outta here with this amateur hour bullsh-t.

Less flexibility is a trend at many companies now. They are going back 5 days a week. We will likely follow soon. All the flex will soon be gone except summer Fridays. It’s not about work. It’s about control.

@rdi+1qPlMXcy Does Nike pay you extra to write these PR posts?

No one wants to work for Nike. We are all trying to get out unless we're drunk off the kool-aid. Everyone is laying off. Where will we go? We're going to stick it out and collect our checks.

Whenever you're ready to crawl out of their a-s you will see the light too.

If you don't like the policies & management style at Nike go work somewhere else. This is America. Oregon (and most states) is an at will state. You call tell your employer you are not coming back to morrow. If you want a Nike pay check, you play by their rules.

If y’all start a business, hire me . Seems like you would be willing to pay without breathing down my neck on a job that might or might not get done ! Thanks !
