Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Why are you willing to defend a Nike?

Serious question and looking for open discussion. What compels you to defend Nike or any corporation for that matter to people. What do you identify with in that company that compels you to defend their practices? People ask why we can’t get free, there’s discourse about them paying you so that’s enough. When the company profit margin could account for free lunch and breakfast like a Google and we would still be well in the black. And it would incentivize people to actually want to RTO. People complain about 4:1 and people tell them shut up be lucky for a job. Is this why unionizing is a thing of past ? When did this become a thing?

I have had 3 bad bosses in my 20 years. They all got what was coming to them. I’ve been very fortunate in my years of retail and corporate that Nike has treated me very well and provided for my family. I won’t leave unless I’m forced out. I love it here. I have a great boss and boss+1. Don’t talk at all to any one higher up than that.

People are great, and if they aren’t, they usually don’t stick around long anyways.

Nike pays me very well and I love it working there. But I still know better than to cape for a company. Bootlicking is a personality trait, usually of fearful people who often don’t have a lot of life experience.

A vast majority of employees that work at Nike, aren't really making a lot of money to even flourish effectively in Portland resorting to living with roommates, in a used car, cooking food at home because going out is too expensive. Not to say there is anything wrong with that, but Nike has recorded record profits year on year, why hasn't Nike given raises commiserate with their success(except for at the top), why are our bonuses put on one check instead of dispersed between multiple checks so that we aren't artificially placed in a higher tax bracket, thus negating the bonus. So again, I really want to know what has Nike given you that shouldn't be given since we produce the product they are able to sell? Benefits ? Okay you might want the people working for you to remain in good health, so they can keep producing record profits? What else is after that? We receive less company sanctioned time off than our territory counterparts, including the Week of Wellness. So where are we winning? And comparing us to other companies and how they have it much worse only helps my point, because telling me I should be happy because there are shittier places I could be isn't a good argument the system is inherently not in our favor.

“Bootlickers” pay for it all with their sweat. Guess who is collecting free fat checks every month?

I think there should be some gratitude for the opportunities Nike has given you.

There's no amount of free food that's worth the commute, office politics, or wasted time that's not productive to the team or myself. Just being back this past month is a reminder that for many, most of the day is play for many. I would rather be productive at home for myself and family instead of commute and enjoy the cost savings.
My food is healthier and I've gained 3lbs this month and I was sick.
This past month, I got sick from work, passed it around the house. Spent money on doctors and meds, had to get new tires since I'm driving back and forth now. Gas and two extra hours a day of commute.
Of course, because I support globally and 24/7 operations, I have meetings at 5am and up to 7pm, with dome 10pms thrown in the mix. Constantly packing and unpacking twice a day to do these meetings or upgrades before and after having been at the office is exhausting. Why? Because I'm working about 2 more hours a day because of nonsense, then add commute, ge-z, it's been a blast. So my rambling complaints means I don't give a rip about free breakfast or lunch.

For the life of me, I cannot understand the "su-k it up or leave" attitude from employees. They act like they built the place. Nah, you are just a number too. You will realize it when they sc--w you over too.

Some people come here to poke the posters just for fun.
Oddly perverted, but trolls are trolls.
Trolls tend to not look at the family unit that is affected by decisions within Nike that are made with absolutely no thought on improving the product or the company.
There are active racists on campus- still
There are active misogynists on campus-still.
There are too many narcissistic, self-serving, mean girls and sport bros in middle management who are too thick or too unwilling to make a stand for their direct reports and what is a better path for the company.
It’s a ship steered by fools, looking everywhere to land blame but never into the mirror.

Bootlickers can’t help it. They’ll be defending the rich as they fight their neighbors for clean water.

They’re part of the problem and think it’s entitlement when it’s literally basic necessities that SHOULD be given from employers. The US is such a joke
