How is your work-life balance?

I sometimes feel like working 100-hour weeks wouldn't be enough to get everything done.

Nothing wrong with trying to make a personal connection with those you work with, is it? Sorta goes along with RTO, I suppose that’s challenging for some who aren’t used to working in person with others. It’s not 100% work conversations. Sometimes that’s annoying, sometimes it’s fine.

Well I don't listen to Taylor Swift and I really don't care what the My Director's Kids are upto. Thats Worthless Information to me. Keep your personal information to yourself
No one is interested in it period. We all have our own things to worry about. What I do care is what new things I can learn and invest in myself. God Leaders in this firm are so Pathetic and Full if themselves. Time to GTFO.

I clock my 8 and go home. If you need something done I’ll do it in the morning. I work to live not live to work. If my work loads to high who’s fault is that? Not mine!!!! I ustah have to live to work, now that I’ve grown up and gotten somewhat smarter then my 2/30s you won’t see me doing anything over 9. My life deserves to be lived, not working here unappreciated undervalued overworked but I’m done whining for a while.

Not Great! I am the only one in my team who is going into the office and join calls on Teams. I had to buy a car, have extra child care setup for my kid. I work for 2 teams. My manager and architect are basically useless. Just came to know our director has been at TDA for over 25 years and when I met her she talked about Taylor Swift and her daughter. I am interviewing hopefully I can quit soon...

Work + life balance = -100, there is none, people are tired, unmotivated, dragging, the offices are full of disgruntled people. Some are waiting for their bonus to quit.

those who didn’t get the pay cut (having to drive to a job) can pick up the slack. I took a pay cut, they can do the majority of work.

After inflation and commute, plus a bit for clothes, lunches and other expenses, the bonus and merit would have to be 15% plus for the average employee to break even against inflation and costs. For anyone to work harder or gift their time and talent is absurd.

Bonus is down, commute is up, pay is essentially flat…so my hours worked follow accordingly. Fewer hours than if I WFH. Just reality.

Another major variance between the TD and Schwab bonus structures was the percentage payout. At TD, you could max out at 150% of target, so there was a huge motivation to work extra hard. Schwab’s bonus maxes out at around 120%, and most average out at 90-100%, whereas hitting 110-115% at TD was common if you did a good job each quarter. You’re not going to motivate people by cutting down their bonuses, so I don’t know why leadership would expect anything different.

The difference between met expectations and far exceeds expectations for someone making $60K a year is at most $1K-$2K in extra raises and bonuses. You be the judge on if it’s worth k***ing yourself for that. Most of us figured out it’s not. That’s the equivalent of 40 hours of OT, which is far less stressful than running on overdrive every day.

TDA tended to be all about process improvement. Schwab’s answer is to just bandaid the problem through more bodies. There’s no motivation or incentive to bust your tail, and that reflects in the culture along with recognition and rewards.

My work life balance is great bc Schwab burned me out and made me a bitter employee. I will not give any of my extra time to them. They don't deserve it from anyone honestly.

With the TDA deadlines, inefficient management and planning, constant context switching, RTO, layoffs, I do only what I need to do and leave right at 5.

It’s great. But I decided long ago that I wasn’t going to work like I used to.

Actual work is about five hours a week. Meetings and overhead adds less than 15. If I had a manager who pushed for more I’d likely laugh as most things are busy work with no benefit to the company. Years ago a guy in telecom told me that a baby couldn’t be made by nine women in one month. I’m not in network, but the same is true in my area. Things don’t move quickly because people and the company want inefficiency. Cost control, governance, priorities, changing objectives, staff changes and leaves, poor direction, training, meetings and so on. I used to think fast and efficient were good goals. They aren’t.
