Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

How many consultants on campus?

Do we have an idea of how many shiny shoes management consultants are on campus and what they are specifically doing? I’m talking McKinsey, Bain, BCG, Deloitte types. You know the really expensive ones.

If you’ve worked with these folks in the last few years, you might notice that they are excellent at adopting the local dress and blending in. They wear Nike shoes every day on-campus, typically product that is available at the company store. They are on a first name basis with the ELT, they know the whole Strat org because they are eyeing their exit strategy.

all ivy league grads without any work experience get hired as E band with fast track promotion to S band before their 5 year hurdle. same goes for ex mgmt consultants with zero work experience

Lolol "nike is a tech company." You mean how we use Excel to do all of our demand planning? Or the failed Agile/product focus in recent years? Or all of the constant re-work because the tech SLT can never make up their mind about strategy? Come on. Nike was and still is a marketing company that makes so-so quality clothing/shoes - it's brand hype that sells our products which is why we pay pro athletes millions per year to shill for us.

The only tech nike creates is outdated tech fleece. Get rid of the “tech” people and create better innovative, fashion forward apparel and footwear. All the in house tech people are a waste of resource.

Prior Nike digital FTE …it was a bloated organization as well, after initial fuelband release, there were lot of internal fighting and empire building in the digital group. Don’t blame Nike Tech. We didn’t forget about the discrimination and bro culture in digital either.

Lmao. “Nike is a tech company.” What does it make? A SaaS tool? Maybe the Nike fuel band? Oh, wait they discontinued that because it didn’t make very much initially. How about swapping out tech tools from slack, box, and zoom to a suite of tools? That seems right. That’s the “tech” Nike is…a giant hamster wheel going around and around doing the same sh-t.

Go back to focusing on selling shoes and clothes.

Failed ideas from the tech sector like Agile… LOL. Because our multi year product cycle is proving to be a raging success.

Nike is in a weird spot.

Parts of the company are a cutting edge tech company, parts of the company are ancient swamps.

It was a huge mistake when they merged Tech and Digital. And a bigger mistake when Tech’s leadership won out in politics.

That’s when the culture of contractor bloat spread to areas of the company with enough budget to damage our books.

Are they designing the new orgs and structures is what matters. We know what a great success the last two were.

Getting paid to pitch failed ideas from the tech sector, like Agile and Product Managers. Nike is not a tech company, and those strategies were proven failures a long time ago.
