Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

do not be surprised

cisco is living off it's 1990's tech and culture. grasping for relevance ever since. boards and councils bs meant they missed the cloud -- a huge strategic error for JC. his legacy is steering what was a great company into long term decline. it ain't coming back. take care of yourself first. there are no bonus points for loyalty to a stale big company.

“ IBM and Oracle had skills and products Cisco couldn't dream of and they each have a tiny single digit percentage of the cloud market.”

Oracle’s OCI is the fastest growing cloud solution right now - before AWS and GCP.

...they missed the cloud...

For the millionth time, IBM and Oracle had skills and products Cisco couldn't dream of and they each have a tiny single digit percentage of the cloud market. Maybe if Cisco had one working OS like Arista instead of four broken ones they might not have lost market share in so many markets. From read only SNMP to wildly inconsistent CLIs to other failed attempts Cisco never took network management seriously under Chambers either. If Cisco couldn't take on the low hanging fruit which would have starved out their competitors taking on new markets with entirely different competitors was never in the cards.

I am thankful to have experienced those days of $9 pre-RSU regular stock options.

I am very scared what opportunities tech holds for those in their 20s and 30s.

Worked to the bone many years in 30s and 40s. Long weeks, escalations, getting chewed out by customers. But worth it.

If I were 30 again now in current IT climate; I would put forth minimum effort not to get fired. Because there is a pretty good chance you will.

I do not blame the change in perspectives for younger folks these days.

Cisco is just a financial services company that is roleplaying as a technology company. They acquire actual technology companies, ki-l the product with horrible leadership and processes and replace everyone with offshore contractors.

Ain’t that the truth. Cisco has been in a downward spiral since Scott Herron came on board. More pain to follow.
