Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

My thoughts go out to you - but you will be OK

I left Nike on my own terms but have been laid off before and went through many at Nike... They are scary but there is life after Nike and you will be OK.

What you can do to land on your feet better

  1. Work on resume but realize resumes are not the end all be all... Beauty is in eye of the beholder.
  2. Network (outside of Nike). Recruiters, past employees, LinkedIn acquaintances
  3. Join professional groups, learn and network.
  4. Use career coaching services. Along with gaining insight they can help you process getting laid off (mental health services too).
  5. Volunteer - give back and network... Also keeps your mind from going bonkers
  6. Try to move on - as hard as it is you need to move on. If you vent too much people will distract from you and employers will pick it up.
  7. Set up goals I e. Meeting with one person a week, work on resume for 3 hours, research 10 companies, etc. keeps you in a routine
  8. Join a gym, planet fitness is cheap.
  9. Stop drinking, seriously. Saves money and just adds to the depression. When I was laid off I drank so much that I probably should have been admitted for alcoholism and it took me years to fight through it.
  10. Don't look back. People who remain will move on within weeks, Nike doesn't love you, it never did. Just mentally move on... That part of you life is done.

That is very nice, but the people who need to go are the Sr leadership team. Terrible results from them.
