Thread regarding Teradata Corp. layoffs

Fire JW, Promote CT

Our CMO is horrible. CT is the only marketing leader who even knows what business we are in. Promote based on merit and acumen, please. This will not solve our legacy problem but will stop the embarrassment. She really is clueless and her hires are just as bad.

It wasn't pulled, just archived, probably because the last activity on the thread was few moths ago. Look it up.

Nine thousand views and hundreds of comments with numerous examples. Why was it taken down? It was a smoking g-n and is making KCC and SM a little nervous, as there has to be truth in so many comments, therefore forcing them to act. They won't do anything until we are bought by an activist investor who will clean the house, and all ELT will get cashed out, thus avoiding a very visible DEI case. She has already threatened us with the DEI card.

Why would a post with 9000 views get pulled down? CT may have had a few complaints but nowhere near the ethics violations from JW. And he’s been here 30 years. #CT for CMO!

From the moment JW started we all knew it was an accident waiting to happen. We sit there and wonder how did she get through the screening interview?

Like seriously the hiring team should have seen right through her in the first 5 mins.

Inexperienced, talentless and clueless should have been the keywords at the top of her profile

If rumors are to be believed, HA is sticking the kn--e into JW, not publicly, of course, but behind her back as she does with many others. JW is the worst ELT member in living memory and the bar is very low.

Is JW still at TDC? If so it shows how hamstrung SM is to fire her. It would work against their DEI targets. But seriously, there is more negativity shown toward her than anyone else in the history of Teradata. Why did the ethics post on her get pulled down? Cancel culture at work on The Layoff...

JW ethics post has been removed. One of her minions probably complained many timestamps layoff.com and had it taken down. With almost 9000 views and hundreds of comments it’s pity it has been censored, more for the well being of her team as much as shareholders.

Did the JW ethics post get removed?

I no longer see it

It had plenty of comments over the weekend so it should appear in the “active” tab

To be clear, the current gripe is not directed toward some good hard working marketing people that still left. It is targeted at management and failed hirings like JW and her minions, and failure of marketing as a corporate strategic organization. If CT is part of the problem, so be it.

But first thing is first. Let's stay focused. This place is broken as in everything broken, starting with engineering and no viable product. We need to get BoD, ELT, and their minions out of there or make it uncomfortable for them to stick around. Once that happens, we can worry about what to do next but BoD and ELT+ minions must go now.

If we continue to squabble, we are playing directly into BoD, ELT narrative of this place have its shares of problems and finger pointing at all like any other place.

We can't replace JW with CT. JW is terrible but CT ain't any better. He is part of the marketing problem.

We need to face the facts that marketing is a basket case. Hopelessly underfunded, clueless as to what marketing strategies are needed to help save the company.

And you failed to give a #3 in the post below.

Anyway, in a summary:
JW and CT won’t be missed by marketing
Marketing deserves better leadership
Marketing is limited by poor budget
Teradata deserves better marketing
Teradata deserves better product
Teradata deserves better strategy
Teradata deserves better C-suite + BOD
We all deserve a better job market
We all deserve a better economy
We all deserve better

But here we are. Still here.

Go enjoy your weekend without sitting around trolling on here. You do have more enjoyable things to be doing before SKO robs you of your week, right?

“Marketing simply just don't get it. They have failed the organisation.”

No. Teradata has failed marketing, particularly in three ways:

  1. JW’s hire and the fact she remains
  2. budget

The problems you outlined would easily be solved if we had a budget comparable to our competitors.

And that’s keeping it simple, without pointing fingers across the rest of the company.

This may be the most ludicrous post I have seen. Only a few likely scenarios. A) you are CT and reading the rest of this post should give you how ppl think of you even being in role.

  1. a full troll just to take a on CT
  2. an absolute fool. Really. You are likely the same person responsible for Possible and SKO disasters.

My vote is CT. Please move on. For the love of everything innovative. Do the role justice

Marketing merch has significantly dropped off. Any employee outside of the US now has no swag because the cost to ship it is more than the item itself. So employees are having to wear shirts with holes in them and in some cases older shirts with the upper-case Teradata logo to events. The impression given to customers is just terrible.

We were promised over a year ago that employees outside of the US would have choice when it came to shipping costs so it would be cheaper but than has not transpired.

Local marketing has to really pick and choose which events to go after and when we do, we end up with a tiny little booth where snowflake and databricks have massive displays and signage and as a result attract the most traffic.

Marketing simply just don't get it. They have failed the organisation. They have failed at their jobs

The fact that Marketing still exists shows how clueless the ELT and BoD are. They could hire an ad/marketing agency for way less than they’re paying now and an agency couldn’t do worse.

You could cut all of marketing and replace it with a single person using AI. Better quality, a lot less money. Anyone who thinks marketing is working is naïve AF. Or just plain stupid.

Stating to drop all of marketing right before SKO week 😂

Would love to see that week actually happen with zero of marketing’s work. Some of you are naive AF

“ If you cut all of marketing, you will also be eliminating all of these…”

Well, “all of these” haven’t helped revenue, have they? Marketing is filled with b-ttkissers whose best days were 15 years ago. Eliminating Marketing will have zero impact at this point.

"If you cut all of marketing, you will also be eliminating all of these: ..."

That's the point. JW & crew are so inept that it would not matter in the big picture. Some inconveniences but no company ki-ling impact because that has already been done with the hiring JW and friends.

"Worth mentioning how slim the budget is for TD Marketing compared to our competitors... "

The real Teradata never had a big marketing budget. Focus was on best product where customers want to buy regardless of marketing budget.

Now Teradud has no product and so need marketing to peddle lipstick on a pig and JW & minions are failing miserably at that.

The crux of the problem is no product and bad management/organization with no morals, ethics, or competency. Everyone distrust, disrespect, an despise the freeloaders BoD and ELT orgs.

The damage is at the core so it is beyond repair now. This place is done. Best to move on.

Worth mentioning how slim the budget is for TD Marketing compared to our competitors. It’s painful when they can outspend us left and right.

“Do more with less” while millions will get dumped into some agency that churns out cookie cutter disappointment.

If you cut all of marketing, you will also be eliminating all of these:

  • Analyst reports and relations
  • Account Based Marketing
  • Branding and creative design
  • Campaign marketing and nurture
  • Competitive intelligence
  • Content - no more blog, white papers, brochures, infographics etc
  • Customer advocacy
  • Customer journey and personas and ability to target specialized audiences across multiple channels at once with personalized content
  • Demand Gen and top of the funnel generation of new leads and contacts
  • Events and support of conference and trade show booths
  • Field marketing and regional marketing
  • Industry marketing
  • Internal communications
  • Lead and contact management processes
  • MDRs
  • Messaging
  • Partner Marketing
  • PR and media relations and Ads
  • Product Marketing
  • SEO
  • Social Media
  • Swag and merch
  • Trials and demos
  • Video production
  • Webinars
  • Website - every aspect
  • Marketing support of the executives, customer success team, partners alliance team, education team, etc

…and plenty more.

Honestly expect no loss to ROI after months of dumping that?

Who outside of marketing has both time and skill sets to take on much of that? Budget is transferable, but the rest?

JW hired under sub standard requirements, performance evaluated using sub standard criteria by sub standard advocates, and will be rewarded for sub standard results, not fired, which would ruffle too many feathers.

Remember when CT used to try to be the host for SKO? That gig didn't last long at all. They should have known back then that he is not meant for this company. He has grifted his way along in life and has not proved any mettle when it comes to showing that he could be the CMO

Promote CT? Are you kidding? This has to be a robot, surely not a human that works at Teradata. Name one thing he has done the past 20 years? 'STOP BUYING ANALYTICS AND INVEST IN ANSWERS!" It really does not matter who runs Marketing for Teradata but we need a fresh new smart innovative cloud-native leader. FIRE JW AND CT!!!

JW sets a very very low bar for her replacement. You could get an intern fresh out of university and they would do a better job than her. She has led marketing from one failure to the next.

Its time for the trash to be taken out.

JW is horrible and at least 10x overpaid, but no Marketing can help this company. We could fire all of marketing, fire all sales not assigned to large accounts, and milk this cow till she dries up. If you canned Marketing would it have any impact on revenue?

But CT is not the answer. He has knowledge, relationships, and longevity here — but his own set of pitfalls and “merit and acumen” would be a rough debate
