The 3 year layoff cycle continues. 2017 mass adidas competition layoffs. 2020 long tenure layoffs. 2023 budget cut layoffs.
I'm sure it goes back a lot longer than the past 6 years as well.
Could have seen this one coming when they gave everyone a "promotion" with new titles but didn't pay us more $$$
That last post is correct. Regular, 3 year layoff cycles were not a thing at Nike until 2017. The layoff prior to that was in 2009. And you’d need to go more than a decade back in 1996 to find the previous layoff.
Welcome to corporate America circa-2023. Well that, and this industry is now WAY more competitive than it has been in the past. Nike can no longer rest on previous successes and brand equity. Nike either again learns how to innovate or these layoffs will indeed be more of a regular occurrence.

The people coming into the Beaverton office everyday from 9-5 and spending their days sitting in meetings and refusing to learn new ways of working are the reason the company stopped innovating. Nike will cling to the old ways until it doesnt exist anymore.

2020 resulted in the loss of many fine teammates, yet a huge number of weak ones remained.
And everyone acts shocked when they announced these layoffs. History repeats itself. And should we be surprised? How many fellow employees do you know that roll into work at 10 am, do nothing, then leave at 3 pm? The company could operate just fine with legit half as many corporate employees
