Thread regarding Ascension Health layoffs

Why are people still working at Ascension Health

There are many better and more ethical companies that are hiring right now. I left two years ago and I never regretted it. I feel bad for my former coworkers who are still working for that mess of a company. Hopefully, more and more people will realize that the job market is still good and that they do have a chance to leave.

You think they will eventually sell all of the hospitals?

Yup it means they are selling hospitals. They have already been doing it which was their whole plan all along. They also won’t promote non-Catholics so you’ll end up with mo--ns eventually making decisions since they were not the most competent candidates rather just yes people who go to church and are ok with making a buck off of sick people even when they are harmed. Glad they can afford jewelry and fancy cars. It is a shame they got rid of so many nuns.

It's a uniquely putrid American scandal.

Does that mean they are selling the hospitals?

You realize they are outsourcing every segment of their company they can? They want to compartmentalize and segment everything either through contractors or subsidiaries. Look at the nurses and the unions, Ascension probably wants the nurses to be 60-80% contractors at every facility and maybe 20% staff so they have a pool to promote into management or as new nurses fresh out of school. Also with the contractor nurses they can run leaner nurse to patient ratios leading an overall larger reduction of FTE hours and overhead/benefits costs with liability for fu-kup transferred to the contractor’s insurance not the hospital’s. Look at their ER’s for example many of them employ doctors through an agency and patients receive separate bills from the contractor’s agency when they are seen in the ER, this increased costs and probably have to be disclosed on the hospital charge master beyond highlighting services are
Provided by the third party please refer to their billing policies.

They will probably continue to do this to sell off different branches of the hospitals to other health systems. Their goal is to fu-k up the hospitals operations in such a way that the new buyers will continue to buy services from Ascension groups like resource one indefinitely or for a few years. The federal government should really just go after Ascension’s Juridic personhood status since it is a specific religious legal claim and compel Ascension to explain who is really pulling the strings behind the decision to become a hedge fund vampire while reducing care like with the whole not autoclaving surgical instruments for dozens of procedures. It was reported that it was a a cost issue across not hiring enough people and they probably only make between $40,000-60,000/year.

If indulgences are the most catholic thing people think of instead of Christ, then Ascension is honoring that tradition especially when they got rid of the cross from their buildings and hospitals and have crazy St. Louis centralized HR practices for every facility in the country. Every hospital is different due to the differences in populations they serve and the communities of providers they can attract. I guess we’re gearing up for a flood of foreign healthcare workers through a Vatican decree at ascension facilities is my random 2024 guess.
