Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Get off the Dell bus in 2024

If you don’t get laid off, try to get off the Dell bus in 2024.

The bus drivers don’t know how to drive and clearly don’t know the routes they need to go.

For those of you who "quiet quit" and got a severance package, how did you go about getting the package? Did you wait for Dell to make the offer, or did you proactively bring it up with your manager that it is something you would consider?

I'm currently debating whether I should bring it up or just sit and wait....been at Dell 9+ years.

Thanks in advance from a current "quiet quitter".

I've been trying too. Just not got skills or the costly certifications other companies want when we need to pay rent and feed kids first.

"It really su-ks, because Dell used to be a great company who valued people"

Politely disagree. I was there 2002 - 2012 and you were just a number even then. Your continued employment with Dell depended completely on the quarterly numbers.

I was laid off by Dell back in August of 2023 and 2 months before that, John Byrne held a meeting in NY, where he said in plain English "The purchase of Denver Analytics will help us streamline roles and processes". Essentially Dell's $800M AI investment is going to be used to let people go and replace them with an algorithm. This is going to continue to happen in 2024, as I've heard the rumblings from former colleagues who are still there. It really su-ks, because Dell used to be a great company who valued people

Is there layoffs in 2024? If yes, any idea regarding the effect on ISG?

Anyone telling you to get off the bus has a vested interest in getting you off the bus. Don't listen to people telling you what to do (myself included). Time in the market beats timing the market.

Best day ever when I was laid off last February. Terrible management and lots of bullsh-t!

anyone who tells you to quit instead of quietly quitting and holding out for the severance package is a dolt.

“Michael Dell On How AI Is Reimagining Business As ‘The Cost of Cognitive Power Goes To Zero’

Executive ten who are channel focused, believe most roles can be replaced with AI.

“Dell said the potential for AI to improve Dell’s business extends to how the company can handle customer problems, employee questions, and it gives business leaders the ability to scale knowledge to workers across an enterprise.”

Reduce headcount reduce payroll on and on ….

You are crazy leaving of your own accord without the WFR windfall if you are in Dell more than 5 years. I got the equivalent of 18 months wages last May. I was so demoralized in my final few years coping with so many clueless, newbie managers with bizarre titles like "quality coach", customers with basic English skills, newbie support staff peers walking around wearing earphones ignoring you until they need your help. It's a totally toxic, selfish place to work. The only positive aspect was quiet quitting by working remotely.

"The package is meant to act as a bridge to finding employment. If you already have accepted an offer, and then accept a package, the court will view your package as being unnecessary."

Don't forget to mention that the package is in lieu of the required Warn act notice, so they are required to give you at least a package equal to 2 months. Again, not tied to another outside offer.

This is the d-mbest thing I've read all day. The package contract is not dependant on you having another offer. There are only two claw back clauses, you get another job at Dell or you do something damaging to Dell or it's reputation.

My really high contact told me during a one on one meeting that we are expecting at least a 20% layoff by the end of January. Apparently they are partnering with another company to come up with ways of avoiding paying redundancy money for the laid off.

I should stress that my high contact let this slip so please don’t share this information

"the court will view your package as being unnecessary."

lol. imagine the PR taking a laid off employee to court for severance return.

I think you watched too many court dramas. No company will do as you say for the pennies you will receive as severance. If your payout is multi-million dollars maybe.

I've been looking very hard for a new job outside of Dell, I think I am close. Going to ask for a start date that allows me to finish the quarter at Dell. Once I get the offer, I am going to ask to get packaged out of Dell. Regardless, I am leaving Dell, sad but I can't take it anymore.
