Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

No sabbatical payouts

Take your earned sabbaticals now! And your manager can’t tell you otherwise. Use it or lose it, you will not get paid out for the time if laid off.

Please do yourself this mental health favor. You deserve it for all the BS you’ve endured over a decade+

Many people don’t understand that when taking your one month sabbatical Nike gives you two ‘free’ weeks and then you have to use two or more weeks of your own PTO. Taking a sabbatical now would only mean getting two fewer weeks of PTO compensation if laid off. I’ll also add that most managers aren’t keen on someone taking a sabbatical with little or no heads-up. Despite what the OP said sabbaticals absolutely do require manager approval as to the timing and the employee handbook clearly states this.

True, but you have to match sabbatical with your own PTO time so you still get paid out on that if you don’t use it.

I mean at this point it's too late to take the full sabbatical. Layoffs begin in a week. But sure, go for it if you want to at least enjoy part of it.

@xbk+1qrcDrmn The original poster wasn't saying your job would be protected by going on sabbatical. They were just saying that IF you qualify to take a sabbatical already, then now might be the time to take it since none of those extra paid vacation days are counted in the payout if you are laid off. This doesn't apply to the majority of employees, just the few who happen to have a sabbatical available during this exact window from Jan-Feb when we all suspect the layoff is going to happen.

100% correct. Take it or you will lose it. It doesn’t matter if you’re on PTO, sabbatical, maternity, paternity or medical, they don’t care and if you’re on the list, they will find you. Take the time for yourself.
