Thread regarding Truist Bank layoffs

It’s time to accept what has happened and move on,

To all the hBBT people, myself included, it’s time that we come to terms with reality.

For every battle, there is a winner and a looser. For the battle of cultures, SunTrust won, we lost, it wasn’t even close. Our culture is dead, it’s gone, and it’s never coming back. Our leaders are either leaving, getting kicked to the curb, or are just trying to survive.

My advice to those who survive project STAR is to be glad you are still employed. Keep your mouth shut, do what you are told, and most importantly, prepare yourself for the next opportunity which will most likely be outside of Truist. Banking will recover, although it will tale time, it will recover. Make sure you are ready to take that next step when it does.

For me, I’m going to do my time and it will be easy time because I’ll be ready to break free when time is right. I hope all of you will be too!

My team was reduced by one teammate and now the rest of us are expected to pick up the slack working 50 plus with no bonus or OT. If you are an exempt 108 or 109, you are screwed, title is meaningless. Suntruist EL doesn't care about your work-life balance, only the bottom line and if you drink the cool aid you are a fool. I LOVE my job, but I will be looking as soon as the market opens up. You have all been warned ⚠️

SunTrust moved to older and inferior systems??? REALLY??? Wow.

I work for one of the largest divisions in the bank, and SunTrust leadership was FULLY in charge of system integration (hBBT managers were not even given a meaningful seat at the table).

In EVERY case cost was the overriding consideration, sometimes choosing to go backwards - at times leveraging Excel instead of prior automated processes.

Nothing is going to change at SunTruist until real change happens at the executive level. Employees attitude towards each other, their jobs and the organization have been damaged beyond repair. Beyond me how the BOD doesn’t see this. How can anyone believe that having a group of 21 allegedly making decisions is even real. If this is thinking outside the box the box is so big it will collapse on its self.

What is this revisionist bullsh-t? SunTrust systems were poorly thought out, half assed implementations of cr-p propped up by slick PowerPoints crafted by Case and his grifter henchman. BB&T systems may have been old, but at least they had the benefit of functioning

The bank struggles are felt in insurance as well. Except in retail insurance (McGriff), there is added angst due to multiple retail factions that can’t ever seem to play along nicely. It is felt by many at McGriff that there is no clear sense of direction, not even with the process of the probable sale of the remaining 80% to private equity. So many are completely in the dark, and many are voluntarily leaving for other brokers in fear and frustration.

While I agree with the sentiment it is time to accept ...
I am genuinely curious about the comment:
The problem is the "merger of equals" is we went with BBT inferior technology and systems.

Which systems and technology do you consider to be inferior? There seem to be a lot generic comments on this board with very little specifics.

This mess is 100% on EL. Probably the most incompetent management team in the entire industry. I get it that they had to merge two large banks during a life changing pandemic but that’s been over for a while and there are still major issues. And the newly formed executive leadership council or whatever it’s called is not going to make things better anytime soon. Each time a friend or client asks me how things are at Truist I do my best to be positive but it’s extremely difficult. I sure hope the BOD will finally see the light and get rid some of our highly paid “Leaders”

SunTrust had a great culture. Its not right to blame hSunTrust. SunTrust employees were moved to older systems and processes and expected to perform. Mergers always come with a lot of difficulty, but this one was especially disorganized and badly planned. Considering the company has not recovered from the merger, the expense reductions are really badly timed. There are still a lot of system issues and backward processes that need to be addressed and that costs money. This company really has a leadership problem.
