Thread regarding Cenovus Energy layoffs

Why Jon is a bad boss

So it’s going to be -30 and something like -40 with the windchill over the next few days. We shut the rigs down and pretty much all field work. You think they would give us the option to work from home when it’s freaking arctic temperatures but not this CEO. He’s just a mean person who truly doesn’t care about employees. Safety first, unless it involves office employees. They want to be the employer of choice yet admit they only pay P50 which means half the industry pays more. And they refuse to be flexible. We all know Jon is looking for any excuse to shut down even the one day work from home program. He’s a subpar human being.

It’s almost like they’re tanking our stock so our PSUs don’t pay out.

If you watched the insider trading info you would have seen that most of our executives sold a lot of their stock at $28.

DZ asked Kam about the stock price? That's rich coming from a guy who has negatively affected it for years now.

If layoffs are coming they should start with the people that decided to staff up so aggressively in 2023.

Now I guess we know why Kam was so uncomfortable when John and DZ asked him when our stock would hit $30…it might hit $10 before it hits $30 if CVE stays on this trend. Not good! The next question is, why is our stock declining at a much faster rate than peers like Suncor and CNQ??? Management???

In the past six months Cenovus stock is down 6% whereas Suncor is up 15%. If you don’t believe layoffs are coming you are deluded !!

During the last 3 months CVE stock decreased 26.2% and CNQ decreased 3.74%. That answers any question regarding J’s performance.

I’m more inclined to think he’s not a good boss because the street clearly hasn't liked anything he’s done for the better part of 4 months! Our Stock has been tanking since the end of September and is abysmal relative to our peers in Q4 ‘23 and now Q1 ’24.

This proves again that work from home is very effective for a number of job titles. You cannot make a rule for all that everyone must come 4 days a week. Spending 2hrs on commute while you can do so much if you are at home….crazy Covid time proved it. It must be changed just like Artificial Intelligence is making changes in our lives day after day.

I love that, you’re an adult make your own decisions. At the same time we’re being lectured about adhering to the 4 days a week in the office, as in follow the rules without any discretion allowed. Sounds like more cluelessness from mgmt.

Suncor HR sent an e-mail to employees allowing them to work-from-home on Friday.

Wasn’t that busy in downtown today. Quite a few people didn’t come to work . I’m glad the weekend is here.

Um, you are an adult, I assume, and can make adult decisions. This has nothing to do with Jon.

Rumour is if you work this week in the extreme cold temperature, you will be getting rewarded.

This is just another missed opportunity for Jon to show he cares about his employees. It would have been so easy. Good luck with the hard stuff. It won’t happen here

Environment Canada encourages people to cover up if they have to go outside, as frostbite can develop within minutes on skin exposed to such cold.Temperatures throughout the province will drop to around –30 C Wednesday night with wind chills near –40

Thanks Jon, I’m going to enjoy waiting for the bus tomorrow morning. Seems safe to me.

Jerk.

Just call in sick if your boss is a bozo like the one in below post

I think they’re making it up. I spoke with a few folks from different groups and not one person has heard anything from any manager.

I’m actually sad to hear that because our director actually said see you tomorrow as a bunch of us were walking out at the end of today. Nice to know who the real monsters are.

uh... bozo... I'm in management... the WORD did come down, each manager can choose what to do and can have their entire teams work from home either Thursday and/or Friday. So don't blame Jon... talk to you boss.

Well it’s pretty easy when you go from a heated garage in your mansion to a heated garage at work and you never actually see the outside like tubby does.
