Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

This will be the largest layoff in Nike history

I don’t know the actual layoff number but one thing is certain: this will be the largest layoff in Nike history. More than a few people will be let go who weren’t expecting it. Those people will learn a painful lesson: their Nike job was always just a job and they were always just an expense on a spreadsheet. This is especially difficult at Nike given the amount of time and effort Nike spends trying to brainwash employees into believing that Nike is somehow special or different. It isn’t. Too many people will be forced to confront this reality in coming months.

The people who survive the layoff won’t be much better off, although they’ll at least still have an income. Layoffs cause long lasting trust and morale issues. We’ve already seen that from previous Nike layoffs. You’ll still have your job but will be constantly wondering if in another three years it will then be your turn.

Nike is indeed very big on brainwashing! I have co workers I swear they spend half of their paycheck on Nike gears every month. They breathe swoosh, always buy and wear to work latest Nike product, have Nike plate, have Nike background in their bedroom or apartment.... Ugh. It is disgusting 🫣

Largest number wise maybe. Percentage wise maybe not. Company has grown in size. Depends on how you define it.

Nothing about that comment makes sense.

This is a stupid statement "I don’t know the actual layoff number but one thing is certain: this will be the largest layoff in Nike history. "

Certain? Are you certain this is the correct word??

Google confirms it just laid off around a thousand employees / Or more than a thousand? Depends on the definition of “few”.

Turns out Google’s postpandemic reckoning didn’t just hit the Google Hardware team responsible for Pixel, Nest, and Fitbit products — it’s taken similarly sized bites out of Google’s core engineering and Google Assistant teams too.

When we spoke to Mencini earlier this evening about the Google hardware layoffs, she did not mention the other layoffs — but did write that “a number of our teams made changes to become more efficient and work better” and that “some teams are continuing to make these kinds of organizational changes, which include some role eliminations globally.”
