Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

It’s time for all of tech to unionize

We are getting taken advantage of and have to worry about layoffs every quarter. If we had a union we could have some peace and job security. Many people shirked at the idea but those impacted and especially those that can’t find work wished they had a union to back them up and support them. It’s time. Enough is enough!

I hate, hate, hate unions. They can ki-l a company. Yet Cisco has become so bad at the ELT level and in legal & HR, we perhaps need a union.

As a "software company" that has to spend most of its development dollars on bug fixing, Cisco is choking itself out with its current staffing. How does actively encouraging people to do even worse job not "ki-l a company?"

The formal unions stuff is way too much work, but if you plan a picket line protest, I'll show up and take a pi-s on the CISCO sign for you!

But first, and much faster, would be a good olde class action lawsuit for all the lies told and great people we have screwed. When a company lays off people during record profits like we have done, lies to shareholders, manipulates employees, yet continues to fill the pockets of the Execs, it should be obvious that something is seriously wrong.

Every share of stock taken from everyone laid off in the last 3 years should be given back plus a few months of pay! Then after we learn our lesson and stop this insanity, we can get back to really being a great place to work again like we once were.

I'm now back to my meetings, smiling, and pretending everything is OK, so I'm not next like >50% of our workforce is thinking. Insane!

We are getting taken advantage of and have to worry about layoffs every quarter.

You're getting six digits out of college to write cr-p code. You are truly the oppressed!

There are countries with unions where both the company and the employees understand their dependence on each other and both work to a common "best balance point." In the US "greed is good" and both the company and the employees want the most compensation for the least work and both sides form a death match which destroys the company and leaves everyone out in the street.

If we had a union we could have some peace and job security.

Or HPE/Juniper or MySpace/Yahoo! or some other random combination of marginal companies really could eat Cisco alive.

If you aren't ready to give up the Klingon uniform and your parents basement, then stay there and pray someone will keep taking care of you. Otherwise, get off your butt and get a better job at a better company. It's not like you haven't had nearly 23 years of Cisco's layoffs to see this coming.
