Leadership kicked off the meeting, spoke about tough times ahead, then had an inspirational speaker for over 90 mins.
But it’s okay, employees got a notebook and a copy of a book written by the inspirational speaker’s boss (Simon Sinek) about “you aren’t what your job is” and to “find your purpose.”

A motivational speaker right after the CEO announces a large lay-off? You gotta be kidding, right? That was money well spent.
For GAP, it’s worst. Most of them are interim and they don’t have any idea. It’s pathetic.
It was pretty typical hype propaganda, actually. All hands are always a pep rally, and most of it is of little relevance to you, your job and you future.
It’s just for clapping and back smacking team ra ra ra.

I zoned out almost immediately after two minutes of listening to the canned talking points in the speech. The speaker might as well have walked up, simply yelled, "Go Woke, Get Fired!", danced for three minutes like Napoleon Dynamite to a Lizzo tune with fat Nike mannequins behind him, and walked away with a Nike swag bag of some kind.
The book seems to prepare you for layoffs. Your job doesn’t define you (lack of nike job) and find your purpose (outside Nike).
I'm glad we can spend money to bring in an inspirational speaker. What a good use of funds during these dark and troubling times.
