Flex spending account

for those with an FSA account, if you are laid off when do the funds stop working. Do you lose access to that money the day you are laid off or until your health insurance runs out?

Great question - when I was laid off, my flex dollars were eligible to use through the last calendar day of the month I was laid off. I made sure to use every penny lol - you should too!

As far as I know, you lose access to your FSA when your employment ends, since your paycheck is what funds the FSA.

FSAs are “front loaded” (the entire contribution for the year that you elected was deposited into your FSA on Jan 1 - even though you contribute little by little each paycheck), you can use the full amount while you are still employed even if YOU have only contributed a month or twos worth… aka, use as much as you can now.

But it would be worth reading the official documents on the FSA from HR.
