Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Can large commissions get you on LR list?

I got the fatal news today and the script. My mgr called me directly first choking up, like giving me a heads up, then the news was officially delivered by my 3rd line who did the whole 1:1 calendar meeting out of nowhere like an hour later. It was weird.

Folks have been saying that how much money you make is a factor in these decisions. I’m wondering, does past commission play into this calculation? Or just salary?

I’m in sales and made a lot in 2023, a noticeable high amount for a grade 11. But less than 25% of that was salary. The rest was commission and bonus spiffs. Would that big incentive number have been a factor? Just curious if it made me low hanging fruit…and pls no haters, tough day even on the heels of a successful earning year. And hindsight 20/20 no money amount is worth aging five years and toxic stress. I should have quit a long time ago. But am grateful this gives me some more time and flexibility and really feeling for others without that.

Go work for the competitor. Convince your customer that the solutions/products you sold them is garbage.

Grade 11 has a stronger effect than commissions and bonuses. It’s never about how much one IC earns. Earnings are determined by groups of people. A first line manager provides a stack ranking list to their first line manager. Legal reviews the lists to minimize conflicts with employment laws. Stack ranking is superseded by the need to avoid legal conflicts. Early career is used as fodder to complete final lists.

Of course, if you make more then the total target range the company has in mind (meaning salary plus commission plus bonus plus benefits), you will be the one to let go. Why do you think your colleagues don't always give 110% to the job when they know they can? Cause they want to stay employed especially if they have been with the company for many many years. As people get older, it gets difficult finding a job.

Large earners are always a target as managers need to meet both headcount and budget reduction goals. Also in consideration is after a large sale, the customer may not be purchasing for next few years so best to cut loose, and assign someone with new ideas. Who knows what really transpired try asking Sales Director if possible. Good luck bro, there is always another opportunity waiting right around the corner.
