March 1, 2016. It was a great 35 year run. Great pay. Now financially independent. I come here to be entertained.

Retired a year and a half ago. Occasionally checking posts here for two reasons:

  1. It’s fascinating to see what happens in the race to the bottom in which the company has entered. There are always new levels of craziness that pop up, such as the hot-desking. What new absurdity can the management come up with?
  2. I’m curious to see to what extent current employees are aware of the general trends in the company and therefore what to expect of their future. Amazingly, many don’t seem to be able to see beyond the end of their own nose.

I post only when some newbie starts talking about things they don’t know anything about, such as what a career at Exxon looked like 20-30 years ago, when the company was still reasonably functional.

Very odd to me that people that left would still frequent this board. If I ever left, I’d never look back.

Left last year. Still traumatised by the treatment given out to me since Covid.
I don’t know why I come back.. maybe to deal with the trauma and help others realise there is a good life beyond Exxon … I still get nightmares of situations I was out in post covid. Would have been better to be let go during covid.

I recently retired. Years since COVID we’re pretty tough to get through.
