Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Why is everyone down on how they are doing it?

Why is everyone so upset about how they are doing it? What is wrong with it? Honest question.

Honestly starting to wonder if the intent is to be cruel - we all get nervous and anxious so that for those that stay, we become grateful for having a job. They can demand and ask for more with much less to work with.

I've also been part of layoffs at 2 other large companies. I've been part of an instant email and clear your desks approach and another where news was delivered by direct managers of those laid off. Both were better than the announce and wait 2 months with no official comms that nike is doing. It just funnels people to sites like this and creates fear rumors and uncertainty.

I have friends who just went through layoffs at two major companies. The company just sent out a mass email at the same time that said you were either safe or gone. The whole thing was over instantly. Much better way to handle it.

This is basically mental torture and cruelty towards employees in my opinion. Just imagine the anxiety of all potential families involved for such a long time waiting for the hammer to drop and destroy their life projects and dreams in addition to their mental welfare. Add to that, Nike has been overworking people to the extreme in the last few months, getting away with it, affecting everybody's living situations, families included. There has to be a better way. There could be a legal remedy option like a class action type of lawsuit even with the employment at will clause due to pain and suffering laid off or not.... We are talking about a lot of technical professionals that are not deserving to put out to pasture and soak in all the stress caused by these news, after giving it all for the company. I think that Nike is ran by too young executives that rotate periodically due to lack of performance, that are not executives in the traditional way, destroying the joy to be part of what it could a cool sportswear company with some sort of leadership to look up to. Too amateurish, too inconsiderate, too unprofessional.

I’m confused why our HR is so incompetent that they can’t figure out to map excel sheets to outlook and send out a mass layoff email to those being impacted. This isn’t our first rodeo so why are we so bad at this?

Let's see...announce 4-1 in Oct despite overwhelming employee feedback and the fact that for most people it means another day of driving to an office to Zoom with people who don't live here. Then announcing layoffs before Christmas with zero detail or clear timing. Let people return to the office on Monday's in Jan and wonder for TWO MONTHS when the hammer is gonna drop. Then announce it's happening, but only for phase 1, which by the way is for "corporate enabling functions" a term most have never heard before and so now everyone is sitting there wondering if they are a corporate enabling function. And then for those who are not a corporate enabling function, they get it sit in their he-l hole of depression for another couple months before they have any kind of resolution. And the only thing we hear from leadership is "but make sure you keep doing good work." How to mu---r any last shred of morale in 4 easy steps.
