Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

For anyone that has gotten a PIP and survived, what are the downsides that no one really talks about and how does it change the team dynamics ?

Some have said that it could just be your turn to get the NSI for the team. Can you also go to another team during the PIP and perform the PIP under them?

Just a reminder to all of you. The ones to select the people to be piped are your managers or supervisors. The only way that the people from the top is involve, it is to give the number of people to be piped.

All about who you know. I seen people move around and get protected on a PIP from another department, but they also knew someone. By protection I mean they was pulled from the department they got PIP'd.

I know some Sr leadership who beat a few pips throughout their career but it messes up your $$$, Potential and CL promotions as others stated. It also depends on when you get the PIP in your career. Most of the people closer to retirement bite the bullet and attempt to beat them. Getting a PIP early in your career su-ks because you essentially have to rank well the next few years to get a decent raise. I honestly would leave, not worth it. If you mid career, then you have to decide is it worth it. Also, understanding you go be at/around your current salary for a few years (if not longer than a few). Considering HR is over $$$ and the salary band was reduced, it's really not promising. You now can reach the 90% in your salary curve much faster, which you are eligible for a CL promotion at that point. However, HR can choose to not give you a CL promotion and after 90% in your current curve, your raise % goes down. I'm not sure how high the curves go but I heard of folks being 120% in their curve and getting 1% raises while ranking outstanding consistently.

If you just happen to know someone outside of your manager and who was in your ranking session, then it may not hurt to ask is it worth attempting the PIP. Some PIPs are created for you not to beat them.

Your PIP laundry list comes from the team who PIPd you and you report your progress to them as well, so I don't see how you can move while on PIP. PIP is so demoralizing and shameful, I've seen many opted for the PIL instead.
