NSI Assessment

I've heard that if your management doesn't like you, that drastically increases the likelihood that you'll be ranked NSI, but is there any truth to this?

Totally right. Your manager and the company deeply cares about you, and your success. Celebrate and embrace NSI...

The performance review process is fair and totally objective. You managers input does little to change your ranking. Keep up the good work. Remember, it’s a culture of caring.

Your supervisor will input your pre assessment category. Once someone is pre assessed NSI all other managers will do their best to keep that person there so protect their people.

As I advised before this website erased my comment. The ones who NSI, PIP, etc. it is your manager or supervisor. People from the top are the ones who give the numbers. NSI, you are out.

My former manager saw me as a competitor for future assignment. (Some of my co-workers told me later.) He also made sure I did not get any visibility with senior management. Everything has to go through him and he shares little information from the chain up. Since I knew more about the actual work than him, he barred me from working on the projects where I would shine and instead work on his pet project that went nowhere. Then of course pinned it on me when things failed.

Many more like him but he was the worst of the bunch.

yup, even if your results are good, you can be dropped for some behavioral item. e.g. if you get into conflicts with others that influence their ability to deliver results, you can get dropped to a lower category. and behavioral is a broad term. that's why you should not understimate behavioral improvements. although being dinged by a supervisor who does not like you can also happen.

If the person representing you does not like you or sees you as a direct competitor for a future assignment, you will get dropped in ranking.

If the person representing you has never met you, that person will communicate the message received from your boss, which could be bad if boss filtered out the good stuff on purpose.

Also if you know more about your group’s subject than your department manager he will monitor your calendar and instruct you not to attend any meeting with a senior executive and go instead so that you do not get any FaceTime or recognition.

He will then talk you down in the ranking meeting and keep you at the bottom so that you are not a threat.

Yes, ranking is a popularity and agreeability contest. No more, no less.
