Remote Employee Productivity Monitoring

Does anyone know if and if so how managers monitor their remote employees productivity? I know they can see if you're online via Webex, but is there anything in place beyond that?

I used to use an oscillating fan and a pen or ruler - and tape the rig to my mouse so that it would keep moving. That was good enough to keep my instant messaging status 'green'.

This was years ago. These days, I am certain that IT could go in an look at keystrokes or time spend on various screens / websites.

It is a shame that after 3 plus years working from home, company has to monitor whether employees are at the office or not. They trusted us to do the job remotely and all of a sudden they don’t trust us. Productivity is not measured by the location but by the work you do. Most people now spend 1.5 to 2 hours round trip to be at work only to be stuck on WebEx entire day.

If your job is physical then keystrokes etc don't mean anything. However, if you're spending your days on Instagram and your prototypes are behind schedule.......

BUSTED!!!

It's called "computer forensics" for a reason. It's about building cases.

Say you're kind of an academic with your job where you have to spend a lot of your time reading journal articles and books. Or, what if you spend most of your days in a lab or garage or making prototypes? You're away from your computer a lot.

How do you judge that by keystrokes per hour?

There is certainly an irony that people are worried about both whether their productivity can be monitored as well as layoffs. If you are productive, in office or at home, you are less likely to be on the layoff list. End of story. If you are scamming the system by spending your days at Costco or the local coffee shop and that’s why you are worried about your work being monitored, you should be laid off.

What matters is what you put into the hours, not how many hours you put in.

But just in case, I block off the camera and the microphones.

Lol the company that doesn’t even have analytics from their HMI’s and touchscreens is somehow a master tracker of all their workers productivity. Right…

Yes they know everything!! Ford scans your emails, certain color themes are marked for confidential/secret and you will make a list if you email these things. Also know that little icon with the goofy daily images next to the start key is monitoring you. Ford knows which applications you use, for how long you have used the app, what sharepoint sites you visit, your browser history and even what you do on the site. If you plug a unauthorized usb into your laptop, yup! it knows that as well. Basically, treat it as if every keystroke is monitored. if you work from home, just get a HDMI splitter device and browse facebook on your personal pc. the people who browse and shop on company pc are just asking for trouble. d-mb d-mb. take as much as you can from this deadbeat company, don't let them fire you for something d-mb like not logging into your pc or staying away for hours on end. If you try just a little, its makes it that much harder to target you vs. not doing anything and having documented proof of that.

While connected to the conference room display during a team meeting, my LL6 inadvertantly displayed her Outlook inbox to everyone in the room, and it was absolutely loaded with emails from Temu, Amazon, and all sorts of other contacts that were personal nature. If Ford monitors employee activities, it clearly doesn't include LL6's or higher.

I've seen the WHQ downstairs lab - it's a glorified IT centre with a small staff that basically scans communication emails looking for key words, phrases, and the like. Mostly done by automated systems and software, which means it's 24/7 monitoring. The staff does more than just monitor the results of the automated systems but thats left for another days discussion.

I'm concerned about monitoring productivity of RTO employees, like the ones who want to chit chat with coworkers all day, take long restroom breaks, disappear for parts of the day, etc., instead of doing work.

Having a mouse jiggler or auto sent emails isn’t going to cover up the fact you don’t do anything. I have been getting 40 hours of work done in about 10-15 hours a week for years. I don’t have to kiss ar-e and my managers always love me.

I'll repeat. There is an entire computer forensics lab in the basement of WHQ. They know more about you than your family does.

If you are using a company computer and network/VPN, it's assumed they can track liveness, access emails and browsing history
It's their systems, foolish to think otherwise. Read the fine print ....
