Accommodation

Why does HR request a doctor note for an accommodation & then not follow the doctor’s recommendation?

They've had me submit documentation from two different doctors with the same details and are still refusing to acknowledge that their accommodation is not effective. They would rather push me to a leave of absence or remove me from my job instead of listen to doctors.

Any of my directs or their directs come to me for accommodation approval, I ALWAYS approve. I’m not a Dr. I know a couple of them may be faking, but zero fux given.

Literally why does it matter if someone has an accommodation who doesn’t need it? Oh no the company cannot justify the rent! We must treat all disabled people as liars to ensure that no fakers slip through the cracks? We must ignore doctors notes and tell them that we don’t think they’re disabled enough. Sure they’ll suffer but it’s worth ruining 100 people’s health and production to keep even 1 liar from working at home.
Then when they complain we’ll tell them to blame the liar. Sure there are no actions they can take against the phantom liar like they can against us but we’ll pit them against each other like we do for SSI and food stamps. Morality who?

It honestly drives me crazy hearing ppl complain about accommodations. Blame issues on the people who are abusing the ability to get those accommodations if you want to blame anybody. I was out at a St Patrick’s day parade and ran into a guy at the bar who has been out on medical accommodation for 2 years….how does that make any sense?

WF doesn't have any "experts" qualified to opine on a disability. Even ol' Doc Brent hasn't examined the patient. Also, FHY and FU. Enjoy going to the office they are going to close down and use as an excuse to fire you.

Happened to me as well, not for WFH but for intermittent absences.

I don’t see how it matters to my physical health if someone is getting accommodated who may not need it like I do - especially work from home. It absolutely costs the company more to buy specialty screens, chairs, desks, lights, headphones, etc while also footing the electrical and water costs of having additional people then it does to let a few liars with doctors who are willing to lie with them and a bunch of disabled people work from home.

Aside from WFH, there are also people being denied the accommodation to not participate in shared seating. I was on a disability ERN call with someone forced to stay WFH because they wouldn’t accommodate her in-office with her own cubical. It’s just a control thing.

My accommodation approved and expired.

I don’t want to abuse the system so I didn’t resubmit because the issue I was having at the time is better

My accomodation was quickly approved after they reached out to my doctor to confirm everything. The company is not required to allow you to work from home or whatever else you are asking for, they have discretion. Unfortunately a ton of people have made up fake ailments and this has raised the bar for what is considered legit.

I also had them approve work from home for a year and then suddenly claim I’m not disabled enough even after getting all the nonsense they re-requested. I belong to a group of disabled wf employees and I’ve seen this over and over the last two years - there are way more than the three or so of us commenting here who are getting pushed around by accommodations management/employee relations.

I just want to add as well (since I’ve seen this on a couple of threads) that many people use HR as an umbrella term for any internal employee “assisting” roles. Some posters seemed unfamiliar with this.

Literally just had this happen to me. Accommodations management made me pay to get a second healthcare provider note to extend my accommodation since the first was insufficient due to a missing date (even though the Wells Fargo form had an "ongoing" option at the time). Then, hours after submitting it with the date, they rescinded the accommodation anyway.

Best part of this is that they had already provided the accommodation for an entire year with no problems. The HR rep literally admitted on the phone that there is no "undue hardship". And now that I've asked for a written explanation of the material change in circumstance and change in undue hardship to the business that prompted the discontinuation of the accommodation, accommodations management has ceased any and all communication with me.

Anyway I've already written too much. Let's just say that there's a lot of unsavory things I've encountered while working here, beyond potential disability discrimination. Am going to start calling lawyers this week or next.

let me guess, your doctor recommends you work from home? You and everyone else. I can ask my doctor for a note saying I need to work from home because of my ED, doesn't mean WFs experts agree. They just have to accommodate, doesn't mean that accommodation has to get working from home.

Scrap DEI and spotlight how Wells Fargo must be a leader in hiring disabled people, given all the medical accommodations given out.

They're not going to accommodate you so hold them accountable and walk away with severance. Get a good employment attorney. You'll walk away with at least 20k. Settlements are rarely enforceable.

Maybe it's a scam that too many lazy people use for reasons that aren't valid. And others have to pick up your slack.

This also happened to me. It’s because they’re scared that if they accommodate someone, they’ll have to continue accommodating people. They want to make people give up and quit. It’s just another way to discriminate.
Document everything and send it to the EEOC. Maybe with all the accommodation complaints I’ve seen get sent to them they’ll be able to build a good case.

OP, I share your sentiment. WF is so antagonistic to those w/valid medical restrictions. Pretends to care, but does everything to prevent reasonable accommodation and any chance of career mobility.

You sell yourself out as a gaslighter by saying this is an HR problem. Next time do your homework if you’re going to try to get people fired up.
