Manager reassignment. Do more with less

I have been at Citi for many years and been though layoffs before. But this feels way different.. Was told we still have jobs on our team, minus one person who was let go. My manager was moved to a completely other group and we now fall under a manager we know nothing about based in India. I am the team lead and my backup was the person let go and my manager would back me up while out and vice versa. Feels like we are being left without a captain or the team and I am left filling the manager role as well as my current responsibilities. Since this new manager will know nothing about our team I know I will be leaned on heavily. I am glad to still have a job for now, but I am bit overwhelmed. Feels like a sinking ship. It's the Citi way to do more with less. I will be working on training and certifications the next few months and plan an exit strategy if things go the way I am expecting them to.

Lots of functions have some management layers in India... Third Party Management for one. Vendors aren't FTE and can't be people managers of FTE.

You now report to a vendor? That doesn’t sound right. Since when do we have FT Citi employees in India?
