Good article on freight waves today that lays out the plan . Combining centers that have or will have automation/AI. Will be a much longer drive to work and longer time for customer receiving far away packages. Were gas prices figured into this plan?

Drivers do not care if the new AI center/hub is put on the moon it all pays the same and they will safely work as directed by mgmt. Drivers are not in charge of efficiency.
closing the nearby hubs could actually put more work hours on drivers to cover the same grounds and produce more income. plus have a long do nothing drive while ones body gets some rest. at $50.00 hour pay , 2 1/2 hour drive to stops, 2 1/2 hour back to hub, that's half a day gone doing nothing. what is not to LOVE about that. true union work.
AI reminds us of EVs the car of the future? Now circling the drain and only a fool would buy one today. Should have taken baby steps at first.
They are putting the cart before the horse by not ensuring AI/Robotics are completely safe from cyber attacks especially these days when even top security businesses cannot prevent it. More sensible to try it out in small portions at first and not risk the whole enchilada.
The hardest work is unloading the trailers but they have not got that tackled yet. Only a pilot program for that kind of automation. Doubt anyone would complain if that job was all AI or automation and totally went away forever.
Savings maybe on automation but loss on fuel cost and customer aggravation with later than normal package delivery. Less rest for driver commuting long distances for work means lack of good attitude and friendliness for customer and some loss of business eventually. Closure of some businesses means a lot of return to center packages as driving distance so long all stops cannot be made before their doors close for the day.
