hmm, you are right. He should just rather ask you to take a few days off and hand you the promo while you are on a cruise vacationing ... Makes sense. .. File a open door complaint against this tyranny.

Regardless of your manager's motives, this is something that can only help you, if not at Intel then certainly in your overall career.
It is for your manager's own promotion, not yours.
If your ideas and intelligences are still in your brain they cannot copy and steal them so you are required to write them down or make publish so they can copy and sell them later after you get laid off.
Having papers and patents doesn't guarantee promotion but it can help your case to differentiate you from other promotion candidates... especially if the manager's manager thinks so.
However, if you've been bugging your manager for a promotion, it's probably a stall tactic.
So intel will now own it
