Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Termination Package

My termination package includes two years pay (per our CWA/Leg T contract) and I'm wondering if I get my five weeks vacation in the second year of the payout.

“ Why in the wide world of sports would you continue to pay someone for 2 years when you let them go? It makes zero business sense, on any level. And is just one shining example why many successful corporations will go to great lengths to keep Unions away from their workforce. Look at the disruption to the business just with the farcical CP training alone, even if there is no walkout. It's a ridiculous and antiquated way of doing business.”

You do understand that this dance required 2 participants? The union didn’t get this by just asking for it. The bright, highly educated bargaining team for the company had to agree. During an econ class we had a student ask how a corporate guest speaker felt about unions and corporations. He answered simply, “any company that treats its employees in a manner that makes the employees fight to have a union, deserves what they get”.

Now for those that wonder about a severance package, how about the packages the c-suite receives, aka.. golden parachutes? The union bargained nearly 80 plus years, for smaller raises and bonuses, in order to get better security and benefits, like severance.

2 years pay is AWESOME! My severance as a lowly manager is "up to" 6 months, and I'll most likely get let go any day. Wish I were still union. Taking this management job was one of the stupidest things I've ever done at work. I truly do hope the best for all union workers.

You know what they say - two times nothing is still nothing.

"Must be nice. The union has vastly different deals for each company. California wireline also gets way more than southwest legacy S"

Legacy T employees get paid less per hour than SW Leg S employees. That is why they get more weeks when surplused.

The OP was jokingly expecting a separate check for her 5 weeks vacation for the 2nd year after getting the 2 year paid vacation payout. Haha she would also like to take 10 days sick time each of the 2 years to extend her pay 20 more days. lol

It is indeed funny, especially when you're the recipient of this awesome entitlement. It's like getting an inheritance from a long lost uncle or winning the lottery or slot machines. :D

So, I realize as a non-bargained for worker, or the evil "management" many of you grouse about, that this will come off sounding as if I am jealous or petty.

I'm not, but just an observation.

If you got VTP today, you would get your 5 weeks vacation pay almost immediately after going off payroll as a separate check. Your termination paychecks would come every two weeks like a normal pay check until you reach 104 weeks or whatever your termination pay is.

That's a stretch. Vacation is typically based on hours worked or length of service. Check your contract or severance documentation. If you're entitled to it, it will be documented there. Otherwise.... My guess would be no.
