Thread regarding Xerox Corp. layoffs

Hello Uber!

No, I don't mean to suggest techs will be looking for jobs at Uber. They won't have to, because that is the apparent vision of Xerox Corporate now, to in fact "Uberize" service. This means that a computerized system will take over much of the functions currently assigned to management. Once they have a system in place that keeps tabs on techs' every move, they can employ a point system by which you are paid a bonus for making your targets, and withheld said bonus for lackluster performance. Sounds reasonable until you begin to understand how little control you actually have over said targets, and as usual, a few will figure out how to "game" the system. Customers will continually be asked to do more in lieu of sending out a technician, which will infuriate many of them, and cause more breakage by others. How do I know all this? Caught it through a reliable grapevine on my way out. I even posed the entire scenario to my then manager and he agreed. None of this will result in better service to Xerox customers, but in the short term allow layoffs that make investors happy. With technology replacing more people, we have to consider how those left jobless will find employment. A standard 32 hour workweek may be the answer, if we cannot find more meaningful jobs.

Customers are already being asked to replace their own feed rolls. In fact, the overseas call centers demand it and refuse to place service calls.

Business as usual at Xerox

Wouldn’t deal with these people for all the tea in China.

Please leave Uber out of this. They are an actual “Tech Powerhouse” with a market cap at 160.2 billion.

Customers would get better printer sales and service from Uber than xerox.
