Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

"Voluntary" Severance

I know that voluntary severance isn't an option but has anyone here signalled their intention to their boss in the past? Has anyone bypassed their boss and gone to HR to inform them you'd be willing to take severance? How was this received?

I think it depends on the manager. In another month or two, 2H Opex targets would be released. That time may be the best. Say something like you are burned out, need to take care of family or something to that effect to make it sound legit

Rare that voluntarily offering to leave is approved, so it is not worth the risk. Wait for a voluntary program to be announced or a layoff package.

I did it last year and got in on the September Layoff. Key is to have a decent story as to why you want to go. In my case it was to take care of my partner. They are more sympathetic when it is not just I want to leave Dell with a buy out.

Good luck.

Had a coworker do this last year around June-ish. He was let go before layoffs/severance occurred in August. Don't do it.

Do NOT do this unless offered. It can easily backfire on you. You never show your cards
unless needed.
Rather quiet quit and hope the manager picks up on the hints.
