This Morning our union representatives(cwa) came to our work location saying the company wants to eliminate our job title. They want to send SS work to prem techs, how does this make sense? Anyone else heard this??

CWA coddling to appendix addendum techs. its been happening for years. theyve been trying to d-mb down some titles for years, reducing test requirements for higher skill positions, allowing job title violations by allowing "field techs" to perform "non-field tech" work, etc. etc. or the old "mastec" can do the work. mastec doesnt want the work and thats why they quit. no money in it.

Prem Techs = The Future
The bargaining updates clearly state that more work will be shuffled to the PremTechs. Let's get out of this denial stage. You act like you need a medical degree to do Core work. PremTechs will learn the job in-time and Core will have less work and less OT. That's the vision of the company. D9 messed up brining in premtechs on a separate appendix, so now we are reaping those seeds that were sowed 18 years ago.
Half the work being done by SS nowadays is Prem tech work. SS/BFS has no business working on Gpon. You could “justify” SS doing ABFoEMUX/EMT from an on site or around the corner Ciena but that’s it. SS=designed circuits, that’s it. Prem techs would probably revolt if they knew the SS folks were out there doing the same work for substantially more $$ with better shifts & weekends off(for most).
As a Central office technician that has to go into the basement to inspect fire extinguishers every month, I got to witness the training Prem techs get. They literally stood outside of an interior door (in the Central office) while their manager coached them how to knock on a door and introduce themselves. Seriously, the real world knocking on doors training occurred in the ro--h filled Central office basement.
Prem tech turnover is a little high, who knows why?

That's a lot of knowledge to absorb all at once. Prem techs have been so compartmentalized from the rest of the network and workgroups so it'll take them a while to get up to speed.
Time in title needs to be higher than 2 years.
