About feeling fortunate ...

  1. It's not about letting others control your life. Many people, myself included, have substantial severance benefits. The difference between quitting and getting laid off is easily a $200K gap. I'll go ahead and wait for the axe.
  1. The job market is nowhere near as bad as you paint it. Unemployment remains at record lows. Talented people aren't having issues finding work. In fact, several that I know that have been let go substantially improved their pay and work environment.

One last thing - some people aren't unhappy. They aren't complaining about the pay or work. But they are anxious given that they know they will be cut due to the zip code they live in. Don't know when - just that it's soon. Having that hang over your head is demoralizing to anyone and their teams. It's crazy to me that people don't understand the mental toll the core location strategy is taking on the workforce.

I feel fortunate everyday that I'm employed here. I have a good job with good pay and no complaints outside of minor occasional nuisances. I read this site for rumors and news.

I almost feel sorry for all the people wishing to be laid off for 2 reasons:

  1. It's sad that you actively choose to let strangers (execs) control your life. Why not take control and leave if you're that unhappy and can do so much better? (It's almost like a more rational part of your brain knows that there's nothing better waiting for you...)
  1. When you're laid off, you'll soon realize that you don't have the job market at your feet. Your severance will likely run out before you have a new job. You'll end up taking a job paying noticeably less, starting all over somewhere else, farther commute, in office 5 days etc. (Or, become homeless.)

Like I said, I'm fortunate to have the job that I have, as well as being aware of it in the present.

Anyhow, have a nice day, everyone.

Not today but got lucky Sunday night. She said I had to do most of the work since she was tired. I complied.
