Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

It’s about mourning

I think I found this forum cathartic because I’d read through the posts to hopefully find a nugget of information that it’s all going to be ok. This was a communal space where we could maybe commiserate and support one another - rallying through this storm as one team since we aren’t really being given that or any real support from the leaders who pivoted to bring us back to campus in the guise of community. Leadership at this company is dead and it’s just a job to them.

This isn’t about “ “fu-k you, I got mine” or “you’re spoiled, if you’re unhappy quit” or “Nike brought this into itself for various moves like supporting DEI.” I came here because I believe in the vision and saw myself growing with the brand. Now I think it’s mourning that the dream is dead and if I do make through these layoffs, when will I be up next? Retiring here doesn’t seem realistic because we all hear the stories of those getting impacted being here 20 years plus. So it’s about pivoting to what other opportunities are out there now and what are the acceptable concessions.

Nike is a job but it was also more than that. And if we see this board as a sample set of our current culture…I guess we’ve been fu---d for quite some time.

DEI can be we-ponized, and it can be improperly used however. It should be meant to be an equalizer, not as a status symbol, a required metric for performance, or as a way to over compensate for past perceived or actual slights. I think we can all agree that not every implementation of DEI practices has been completely fair to either side.

DEI does not mean communism. It is about equality, full stop.

Equality puts everyone in an equal playing field so of course this becomes a threat to individuals who lack talent or soft skills needed to get ahead. Instead, they lash out their anger on this board and take pseudo-IQ tests online to show how 'alpha-male' their IQ scores are.

The "dream" is dead precisely because NKE embraced DEI.

There is no organization on earth that has not met catastrophe after embracing Marxism.

'Equity' in DEI means communism.

Nike is just a low-IQ company with low-IQ employees. You will never escape the fallout from low-IQ.

It’s a weird experience to build a brand up in your head, focus your career around getting here, and then getting here and being let down. It’s an experience that can be mourned.

I know there’s a ton of negative comments that just tell you to quit, but easier said than done if you’ve wrapped your emotions up in this place from a young age.
