Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Continued layoffs rumor

Can anybody confirm that we are not actually done for now? Hearing that it will continue for some time.

No difference between fired/quit/layoff/let go/kicked out/sacked/PIP'ed out/etc

There's a big difference between being fired/PIP'ed out/sacked and quitting/laid off/let go.

The former is "for cause" and requires that the company take the effort to document why they're firing you. And you usually don't get a severance package. The latter is more about budgets, acquisitions, personal choice, etc. I've been laid off from companies that were acquired and they decided to sell off whole parts of the acquired company they didn't want in order to keep the part(s) they wanted. Had nothing to do w/ the product of service not being profitable but that it didn't align w/ the acquiring company's goals. I've also quit from companies that have gone public and the VC's decided to take the company in a totally different direction and failed to execute, so I got out before they could ruin the company.

How can quitting even be remotely considered the same as fired? The younger workers quit a job every 2-3 years to move on with expanded skills to take a more advanced job where they can expand their skills even more and get paid more, and then do it again. While it shows no company loyalty, that concept is now a thing of the past and you/they have to look out for #1 because company's are only looking out for themselves too.

By considering "Cisco culture" the good number employee for Cisco is 70K where its stock price was around $50.
before the latest layoff the number is 86k, after will be 84k, then Splunk employee will merge. and latest Splunk revenue was $3.5 billion.
the current economic is not good.
You guys can predict about will another layoff happen this year?

As they build the platform why would you have 3 security specialists
Why would you have a Meraki and an EN specialist doing the same thing

To be an NX org you need a unified message and this means roles will collapse

In the check-in they explained that in Europe because of the local layoff laws the layoff expenses will be dragged to Q4 and even Q1FY25. So no, there won't be 3 waves

All parts of the world are not notified or impacted at the same time. There will likely be reductions connected to this LR that extend past Q3.

Cisco has had continued layoffs since about 2001, get used to it because it's become way of doing business for this company and it isn't going away!

More will come
Brink Sanders is tasked with building an NX org this means many roles are likely over staffed

Splunk acquisition more cost savings likely

It simple: the total planned expenses for this layoff is 800M usd - 500M will be spend in Q3. So remaining 300M in Q4 and Q1. Layoff-Summer is comming. Cisco ELT has achieved, that almost everyone feels unsafe now. As well, because this Layoff has no logic and top performer were layofft while in the same team low performer can stay.
