Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Once you are bloated and not growing

It’s not going to end. Superstar athletes aren’t the future, look at On, Hoka and lululemon.

Our business model has been disrupted and it will never be fun to work at Nike like it was when we were growing consistently. Shoe dogs are all fired, athletes social media shows their true colors, and companies are beating us without marketing.

Look elsewhere or reset your expectations.

Converse for sale ? NKE bought it for $300mm and has made a ton of cash from that investment . Wonder if anyone is considering this as the last big brand for sale that could bring a serious amount of needed cash back to NKE?

OP Agreed. Data shows everybody cares less about sports especially team sports. Kids dont like the anxiety that comes with it, parents dont like the injuries. Superstar Athletes public excesses dont make them desireable role models anymore. The classic Nike model isnt working anymore, but we are leaning into it (disagree abd commit). Insights told them that, that's why they got canned. Consumers are looking to wellbeing not "destroying the competition", which is the motto that is still internally perpetuated in team meetings like we are 12y olds.

How quickly we eat our own.

If you all feel this way, what are you even worried about? Can 2 months pay and several months severance be that bad?

You guys are losing it

Our Marketing teammates need to rethink how they spend $$$ on useless Ads, athlete sponsorship and fancy events that only 100 people attend!

Agreed with @lid. While there’s a lot of fair criticism to go around, OP has gotten it wrong.

If our business model wasn't disrupted, we wouldn't have a King of Bain™ M&A Consulting CEO breaking up this cash cow for offshored spare parts. Counting the swooshes on SportsCenter is only worth so much in 2024, ask Tiger.

You have no idea what you’re talking about. No perception of scale or any real information. Just headline reading and a misinformed opinion. I would suspect you don’t know the comparison between our “competitors” and Nike in annual sales. Not know anything really. Besides your own opinion.
