Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Some thoughts about the state of the work

From a comment I posted in another thread:

Obviously none of us have a crystal ball, but I personally don’t think an “acceptable” normal will be achieved for a while.

(Completely my opinion) But as a company that focuses so much energy on the insights of the consumer, we haven’t spent much time focusing on the insights of the worker. The result is a workforce that does not buy in (or trust) the product of work. The values of the working class have shifted, and we have not accommodated that change.

The result is poor market presence, product, and brand perception. To make matters worse, there are plenty more sharks than there were in 2013. Plenty more agile companies that make great product.

The fight will be longer, against better equipped opponents.

Sports analogies are so passé..

Consumer direct acceleration has officially failed. Thats what is happening.

We’ve been here before. We’ll be here again.

Meanwhile Nike’s target consumer cannot afford the artificial scarce prices being imposed on them. When Nike fails, that will be the why. Not company politics and infighting. That’s a big nothing to the consumer.
