Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Leave Nike

If you want to not worry about layoffs anymore, work in a non-toxic environment, work for a company that has a bright future, then I'm sad to tell you that you'll have to leave Nike. None of those things will ever again be true for this place. The only good move is to leave.

I think the play is save as much as you can so you have the option to be financially secure by your mid 40's, otherwise, it's just no fun to live in fear of facing the grim reality of being ejected from the market at a later stage in life, left wondering how you got here.

I suppose there are always lower paying contract gigs available, and maybe that's enough to finish out your 'career' into your 60s, but even those could dry up due to agism.

save/invest and don't overspend, no free lunches these days

I’ve worked for MAANG companies and honestly most of the complaints I read here are true everywhere. As a matter of fact, Nike is the healthiest corporate environment I’ve worked in, which I understand is very specific to my team and Manager. Job security is an elusive idea in the US, with the exception of academia and government jobs (different types of problems there). I get it, Nike used to be the perfect workplace to some, and we cannot go back to those days of glory. But I feel like many employees here live in a bubble and maybe haven’t had other jobs or haven’t lived in a different place. Basically we have it good, people. Do a quick search on how other “dream” companies handled their layoffs (Meta employees learning they got laid off because their badges stopped working, Google people suddenly couldn’t log into their accounts etc). It’s corporate America, and it’s our choice to work for it. And sometimes it su-ks but we all have our reasons for choosing it. I know why I choose it, have no illusions about it, and don’t idolize my employer. I still enjoy my day-to-day and that’s good enough.

This is true of almost every company out there at this point. Be prepared to face the layoff gauntlet every few years so they can provide shareholder value by replacing you with a recent college grad. There are very few places anymore where this isn't the case.

Agreed...also if you want career growth, almost impossible at the swoosh, they clearly don't give a 'rats' a-s about that, and prefer if you just left on your own accord to make way for younger cheaper "talent", though good luck finding that these days.

It's sad, it's not that complicated to run an org properly, just a complete debacle, bloated org and still spending money 98% in the wrong places.

Also, if you're over 45...ha, you got a target on your back and the lay off squad needs something to do...
