How long does it take to plan a mass layoff

In yesterday's business updates the head of HR said there are no plans as of now, and mass layoff takes months to plan, can anyone share how long they need to plan such a thing?
Given sales are down badly this month, not hoping much for Q1 results.

At the time when they announced the stores were closing, all the planning had already been done. We were told our location was closing on a Thursday, only a few hours before it hit the news, the liquidators were already there from other states and by Monday the store closing signs were up. Even though we were the last to know, the planning had already happened.

It was quite obvious to us (our store was one announced in February) they knew months in advance. Liquidators came in and bam - merchandise that we NEVER had was delivered by the truckload. Closing signs installed, sign flippers in the street.
Better look for a J.O.B. now....
I'm sure they KNOW.

Agreed with everyone, the board meeting will be held in May, which matches the previous thread on Q1 deciding our fate, lots of pressure to drive sales atm but nothing is promising given our feb sales are pretty bad

@1iaq+1rinBGmc is absolutely correct. To add to this, the company has consultants on retainer that 24/7 analyze and reanalyze the business throughout the year - all with the goal of having a plan/guidance on when and where to execute a reduction in force aka optimization for profit. This sounds devilish, but in harsh reality, it's a common practice within most mid-to-large sized companies. I won't name the consultant group here, but a simple search will reveal who they are. Long story short, always assume there is a dormant optimization plan and if you have lead time to explore alternate paths, exercise your right to explore them. When you see the writing on the wall, the plan is already in motion.

it could happen over night... the biz analysis people speculate a biz plan and if it doesnt go that way then they have a layoff plan

if you haven't notice things are going to get way way worse tons of companies laying people off and this is not to scare you but make you aware
