Thread regarding U.S. Bank layoffs

No more remote. So now what?

They said we are all expected to be in office 3 times a week as of today if you have assigned space and remote work is gone.

So where do I go in my assigned building? My manager and the rest of the team are all in different locations.

Just drop in on any floor and take a office or cube space?

The only way the job market is bad is if you’re in a rural area. You can find plenty of remote and hybrid jobs in big cities, which still might require to come to a location for a meeting or two. Other than that, fully remote. Rural areas are being abandoned by bigger businesses in general.

Took me all of 24 hours to find a new job that pays roughly 25% more and still lets me work at home. Gave my notice this morning. Yeah, real “bad” job market.

I am in same boat. I won’t go back till next year since it’s not likely they will fire me till my next performance review. 4 hours a day commuting so I can get an extra $150 a month in raise is not worth it. Commuting will cost $500 a month!

Same here, I'm remote for over 10 years before covid. My job can be done remotely and due to medical condition it's easy for me. I'm also 29 miles away and just under that 30 miles radius. Manager just assumed am one of the folks going to go in and never ask for my reaction. Great management when my remote started due ro work life balance and health. I'm not going in and will sit until next year performance review. Ready to cash all in and walking in the sunset.

Does anyone actually have the workday goal? I have been remote for over 10 years, and would be curious what the verbiage is in this new goal, so I can mentally prepare for when/if it arrives. I'm 29 miles exactly from a hub. I asked my manager for more information yesterday, regarding timing, and he just said read the FAQ... great support!

I am looking forward to being back in the office with thousands of agitated coworkers. Should be fun and definitely not a hostile work environment.

Why did bill say they got the blacks back in the office ? What does that mean

I'm going to go ahead and continue to work remotely. I don't work with anyone in my hub. If they don't value my work enough to allow me to do this, it's their loss. Upper management is full of virtue signalees. How's the green initiative going? How is everyone's work-life balance improving? They sure the heck got all the blacks back in the office, promptly Remind me how many blacks are in upper management?

Also, how is their commercial real estate loans performing? Are the banks all doing RTO to prompt other industries to follow suit to save CRE?

Andy is the most overpaid ceo, he can’t come up with anything on his own and just copies JPMorgan and Bank of America

My job was hired remote, I agreed to my compensation based on remote if I’m expected to go in office there would have been different expectations to pay for gas, parking, taxes etc. clearly the company does not value its employees

The 30 mile radius rule isn’t set in stone in all markets. It could be more, or less, of a radius depending on commute times. If the company owns the buildings you can bet they are going to stuff them with people. Just a way to get people to quit.

We were told the 3 days a week for everyone, including previously remote employees was a decision made by Andy, Elico or however you spell head ofHR name, and outside consultants.

Obviously without any regards to employees or their managers since the managers told us it’s Andy’s decision and we have to pretend we love it and embrace the culture. They didn’t make the decision.

Embrace the culture and put a smile on your face in the office because Andy say so

My favorite part of all of this is I was hired on as remote and now they want me to take on the added expense of coming into an office with no additional compensation.

Really concerns me as to the direction of the company. Especially if the leadership makes poor quality decisions such as this.

Yah its bs, the only reason I took a job at this bank was b/c I was hired on as a remote employee. Now they except me to drive in all of a sudden just b/c I am close to a hub. No Thank you.

There is still remote work if you were already designated as remote and are more than 30 miles from a hub and don't have assigned space. This all su-ks for sure and is a clear indication that leadership doesn't care about employees; however, you will need to talk with your manager about how this will impact you specifically. Most middle managers are not any more thrilled about this as us non people managers.

Why are you asking this question on an internet forum? You need to ask your manager.
