Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Nike is a cult

You don't realize it until you're gone. All of it. Brainwashing, stress, working more hours than your equivalent to prove you're better than. Yet, ignoring your life and partners life to sacrifice to think you're the best. You're not. They don't care and have set you up to sacrifice. Is Nike alone? No. Be careful about your decisions. Don't be naive. Research. Nike is a cult. The cult is dismantling as we speak.

My husband says this to me all the time. I get it and especially how hard it is to walk away even though it’s so toxic

The Berm is here to keep people in, not to keep people out…

They are the king of internal branding. My spouse worked there for over 15 years. It was good but also really bad.

They tell you won't make more outside of Nike. Not true. Made $50k more by leaving.

They tell you will want back in. Not true. Quality of life and new job better. Less hours, more life. Weekends and vacation with no calls is normal outside of Nike.

You think everyone wants to be at Nike. Not true. We have lived in three other cities since then and Nike is not the desired brand outside of Portland. The biggest thing is no one in our family even wears the clothes anymore.

Life is much better on the outside. You will just might need a year or two to see it.

I have to agree. Once you're outside of the berm you can see it more clearly. Some people think being employed by Nike is a virtue and fuse it their own identity. Reposting every marketing campaign, becoming Nike-centric content creators, publicly congratulating themselves for a project whilst being the 14th person on a team that outsourced most of the real work to an agency. To be fair, its easy to buy into it. Nike isn't a sneaker company, "it's in the entertainment business" (If you know who at Nike coined that phrase than you really know)
