There it is. I was just told by my manager that senior leadership will be “reviewing” your remote “request” and unless you come up with a reason (ie disability or something legal like that) then you WILL be coming back to the office. Trust me, my managers couldn’t even hide it in their voice. It’s happening, and to quote my manager “you can’t say you don’t like traffic…” so it’s a mandatory forced RTO. Period.

There's a small office in my city, but it's not one of the "major metros" locations. I opened an HR case to ask whether going there and badging in would count, and was told no, and was explicitly told to choose remote. This is a documented HR case.
I'm an inside sales lead and we have been told to reject peoples request for remote by our senior director who has over 250 people under them. The "option" is not an option for some. As per the Faq "we see great value in having our inside sales team Co-located together". Alot of people will not be happy as from speaking to around 20 sales, not 1 said they want to go hybrid. Myself included. Not happy.
it's back-office only
no sales are impacted - stop complaining
engineering was and is remote with small teams - never was different
It's interesting that the directors get to make this decision. Looking at my org, many directors, sr. directors, VPs are remote, living in locations that either never had an office or places that once did, but no longer do. Are these leaders being forced to relocate or will they get to stay remote?
Anyone see the Q&A on the Dell quarterly? Many questions about reopening offices where many Dell employees live. Answer to all was: No. NYC? No. Atlanta? No. Chicago? No. Phoenix? No. It's like they expect thousands of people to move to Round Rock (on their own dime).
they get to define team...is it your immediate group or your org..HR has been asked but crickets..
So what are the managers/directors using as criteria to approve or reject (beyond what's stated in the public facing policy)?
I find it interesting that Dell is giving those three reasons that they'd reject a remote request, but not also clearly state that it's ultimately at the discretion of directors that they can reject it and not be transparent about why. You are correct, if this is the case, many people will be pi---d.
"if you can “pass” all 3, you’re fine"
because dell management has such high integrity and never will go back on what they say?
As for the counts, just a small sample size will be sufficient to gauge the outcome of remote vs hybrid. Also the data is readily available out there for your research
The fear mongering on here is something. They make it very clear what the criteria is for denying a remote classification. Just look at the 3 bullets and if you can “pass” all 3, you’re fine.
How this even possible when the selection process doesn’t even begin until next week?
"Curious how did you see 70%-80% people requesting remote"
Easy deduction. Anyone with an address >75 miles from office will be remote. Then boots on the ground polling will put the total easily over 50%
you really just need a good sample size polling.
also ask yourself: is there safety or upside with hybrid??
Curious how did you see 70%-80% people requesting remote, I thought the process wouldn't start until next week? or is it the offline discussion?
people manager here.. was in a meeting that the percentages of what people where requesting came up.. most teams in ISG where about 70%-80% of people requesting to be remote.. its going to be interesting to see how this plays out.. people are forgetting that HR is not the one approving this round of request.. its the management team thats going to approve these request. in my group we have been told to have a business case for each person approve or disprove. once the opt in opt out event next week is complete the managers will meet with the director and go through them one by one.. i dont think many will be approved.. going to be alot of pi---d off people my self included
I’m confused. Opt-in starts March 18. How are you getting denied now?
I was just approved for remote working
thanks Dad
dell is family
@nom+1rw0ARvU and I don’t want to work for or with you!
I have a team member who is remote, and engineering title. Several levels of management from Sr. Manager to Sr. Director are stating this particular engineering role is not approved for remote. Which is odd consodering our director approved remote during covid and the team has been exceeding expectations through the past few years.
" they can't support everyone going RTO"
Guess where most of the senior almost retired folks are going to be? Guess where they will be culling from? Hybrid is the answer.
If feeding your family is on the line shame on you for being at Dell. Your family deserves more stability.
Strongly disagree with the OP statement. Just like they can't support everyone going RTO as there is not enough room, they can't support WFR for everyone who stays remote.
People are going to go where the work is to feed their families. Money printing bo-m time is over. It does not matter what the employees want. I want all sorts of things.
There is an overwhelming request for remote. Something in the +50% from employees.
The scare tactics did not work. They will renege on this among other things.
Even if you go hybrid there are more surprises and double dealings to come. Bank on it.
