Ageism Haunts Some Tech Workers in the Race to Get Hired

Ageism is a longtime problem in the tech industry. Database startup RelevantDB went viral in 2021 after it posted a job listing bragging, “We hire old people,” which played off industry stereotypes. In 2020, the US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission found that IBM had engaged in age discrimination, pushing out older workers to make room for younger ones. (The company has denied engaging in “systemic age discrimination.”)

Telling employees they have to "relocate or separate" (RTO) is another sneaky way to weed out the older workforce.

Someone that is 25 - 35 is way more likely to pick up and move rather than someone closer to retirement age (55 - 65).

Well done, Arvind. Stick those knives right in the backs of the loyal employees that have loaded your pockets over the years.

I don’t need your PL/1 skills on my python projects. You had 3 years to get going with python. You complained that the python guys are wet behind the years and we are just doing what you did decades ago.

I’m sorry but I am looking for the skills I need and not the age of the “programmer”. Programmer is your word not mine.
